1009000 or 1007200: two 70s, one inch apart

The other 70 gallon shell we carry is the 1007200 family, 23 inches across and 42 inches tall, molded in Merced, California, at the same 30 pounds and the same 1.9 rating, with no lid field on its sheet. This 1009000 shell is one inch shorter, lists an 8 inch lid, and ships from Lincoln. That is the whole difference, and it is enough to decide the order: a buyer east of the Rockies who wants a lid opening the sheet names gets this one, and a buyer on the West Coast who does not care about the lid gets the 1007200C26. The black tank in this same 1009000 shell is listed separately for liquids that light spoils; the C26 here is natural white, which passes light and lets the operator read the level by eye. Both are rated 1.9 on their sheets, so a dense liquid is inside the wall on either. Seventy gallons at the rating is 1,109 pounds on a 23 inch circle, a load a slab or a raised stand carries without engineering, but a tank set on gravel or a soft floor rocks and wears its fitting; give it a flat, level surface, and where the liquid is regulated, a berm or a tray sized to the tank. The 65, the two 70s and the 90

The three 1007200 tanks are the other 70: natural, black, and cross-linked by its name, each rated as its own sheet says. The 1550000C26 holds 65 gallons on a 24 inch circle at 46 inches and is listed at 85 pounds, nearly three times this tank's weight, which the sheet gives and we print. The 5690100N42 puts 90 gallons on a 34 inch circle at this same 41 inch height, the tank to compare when the floor has room and the shelf above does not.

An 8 inch lid does the venting on a tank this size

• Vent and fill: the 8 inch lid is the fill opening and the vent. A 70 gallon tank is filled from a drum pump, a hose, or a carboy, never a tanker, so the lid opening passes the air a hand fill displaces; keep the lid loose enough to breathe on draw-down and tight enough to keep dust and rain out. Fill with the hose end below the rim so a dense liquid does not splash the headspace wall.
• Headspace: stop at the shoulder. Even at 70 gallons a liquid grows as it warms, and the band of wall above the liquid line is the one to look at with a light when the lid comes off.
• Outlet: 1 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the base. Name the liquid at order and the fitting, gasket and bolting are matched to it; a short flexible connector to the valve, and the valve supported on the stand, not hanging on the tank.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Three and a half feet of liquid above a 1 inch outlet is enough head to gravity-feed a metering pump or a day-tank line, which is what most 70 gallon tanks do. Set the tank on a stand high enough that the pump inlet sits below the outlet, and it runs flooded to the last inch. A small tank at bench height is the one people lean on and hang things from; keep the outlet clear, keep the chemical's name on the wall, and keep the lid on. Where it freezes, a tank this small freezes solid overnight in an unheated room, so it lives indoors or the valve and line are traced and the tank is drained before a hard cold.

Day tanks and dosing at 70 gallons
