A 1005 gallon white vertical tank from Lancaster, Ohio, eleven feet tall on a 48 inch base
The Norwesco 1005 gallon vertical liquid storage tank, part number 45926, is a white polyethylene tank 48 inches in diameter and 134 inches tall, weighing 219 lb empty. It is the Lancaster, Ohio part number for Norwesco's tallest four foot tank; the same 1005 gallon tank from Fairfield, Texas is part 44818. It puts more than a thousand gallons on a footprint that fits through most gates and beside most buildings. It comes with a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a siphon tube as the outlet and a 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. The tank is rated for liquids up to 1.5 specific gravity, which covers water, most liquid fertilizers and many common chemicals. 1005 gallons of water weighs about 8382 lb, and at the full 1.5 rating the contents can weigh up to 12573 lb. The resin is FDA compliant per Norwesco, the service limit is 120 F, and Norwesco covers the tank with a 3 year limited full replacement warranty per its liquid storage catalog.

Where it fits
At 134 inches the top of the tank and the manway are well above head height, so plan a ladder or a fill line plumbed to the top, and check the ceiling or eave if it goes indoors or under a roof. The 48 inch base needs a flat, level, continuous surface; because it carries about 12573 lb at full rating, a concrete pad or well compacted gravel is the right foundation. Our concrete pad sizing guide covers how to size the slab. A tall tank on a narrow base is the one to strap or anchor where wind is a factor, especially while it is empty.
What goes in it
Water, rainwater, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Keep the contents below 120 F and below 1.5 times the weight of water; heavier liquids belong in Norwesco's heavy duty tanks. Size the volume with the tank sizing calculator or the tank sizing guide.
Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a siphon tube, factory installed low in the sidewall. Your valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, to drop a float in and to get a brush inside. The vent lets air out as you fill and in as you draw down; never plug it.
