1005 Gallon Vertical Liquid Storage Tank

Where a tall, narrow 1000 fits

Buy this shape when the floor is spoken for and the air above it is not: against the wall of a shop or a packing shed, in a row of tanks along a fence line, in a corner where a wider tank will not go. Check the height first. At 134 inches the top of the tank is over eleven feet up, which rules out most eaves and many barn bays, and the manway is up there with it, so plan a fill line plumbed to the top and fit the float switch or level gauge before the tank goes into service. The 48 inch base needs a flat, level, continuous surface; because it carries 12573 lb at full rating on a small circle, a concrete pad is the right foundation. What goes in it

Water, rainwater, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a siphon tube. The siphon tube is an internal pipe that lets a side-mounted outlet draw from near the bottom of the tank, so you empty more of the volume than the outlet height alone would allow. Your valve, camlock or hose adapter threads into the fitting as usual. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, to drop a float in and to get a brush inside. The vent lets air out as you fill and in as you draw down; never plug it.
