A 1005 gallon light blue heavy duty tank you can read the level on
The Norwesco 1005 gallon light blue heavy duty vertical storage tank, part number 44820, is a rotomoulded polyethylene tank 48 inches in diameter and 134 inches tall, weighing 249 lb empty. It is the heavy duty build, rated by Norwesco for liquids up to 1.9 specific gravity, and the light blue wall lets enough light through that you can see the liquid level from outside without climbing to the manway. It comes with a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a siphon tube as the outlet and a 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. The service limit is 120 F. Norwesco's 2024 liquid storage catalog gives it a 3 year limited full replacement warranty.

Where a 48 inch tank earns its height
This tank stores 1005 gallons on a circle 48 inches across, which is why it ends up in chemical rooms, shop corners, pump houses and rows of tanks on one pad where floor space is the limit. The cost of that footprint is 134 inches of height, a little over eleven feet to the top of the manway. Measure the ceiling, the door header and anything overhead before you order, and plan how someone reaches the manway to fill, inspect or clean. The translucent wall is the reason to pick blue over black: a glance tells you how much is left, which matters most on a tank fed by a delivery truck or drawn down by a metering pump. If the liquid is sensitive to light or the tank sits in the sun where algae would grow in water, the black version below is the better choice. A tall slim tank shows every bit of lean, so the pad has to be flat and level; our guide to pad sizing for above ground polyethylene tanks covers it. For rainwater, our first flush diverter sizing guide explains what to put ahead of the inlet; for a reuse train, see how a reuse storage train is banded by quality; for a fire reserve, fire water reservoir design for remote sites. Size the volume with the tank sizing calculator and the tank sizing guide.
What to check before you buy
- The liquid. The 1.9 specific gravity rating means the wall is built for liquids up to 1.9 times the weight of water: dense fertilizers and many concentrated chemicals as well as water itself. Full of water the tank carries close to four tons of liquid, and more at the rating limit, so the pad and the floor under it have to be sized for the full weight. Check anything other than water against polyethylene before the first fill.
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a siphon tube, factory installed. The siphon tube lets the outlet draw from lower in the tank than the fitting sits. A 2 inch valve or camlock threads straight in; support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. It takes a fill line, a float switch and a cleaning brush. Keep the vent clear so the tank can breathe as the level moves.
- Temperature. Keep the contents at or below 120 F.
- Drawing. Norwesco's drawing for this tank, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, shows the fitting height and the siphon arrangement.
