A tall, narrow 1005 gallon heavy duty tank for liquids heavier than water
The Norwesco 1005 gallon black heavy duty vertical storage tank, part number 44820B, is a rotomoulded polyethylene tank 48 inches in diameter and 134 inches tall, weighing 249 lb empty. It is the heavy duty build, rated by Norwesco for liquids up to 1.9 specific gravity, so it carries not only water but the dense fertilizers and many of the chemicals a standard tank cannot. It comes with a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a siphon tube as the outlet and a 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. The resin is FDA compliant per Norwesco, Norwesco lists the tank as NSF 61, the service limit is 120 F, and Norwesco backs the heavy duty build with a 5 year warranty. Black keeps light out of the contents.

Why the narrow footprint matters
This tank puts 1005 gallons on a circle only 48 inches across. That is the size you want when floor space is tight: against the wall of a chemical room, in a corner of a shop, beside a well pump, or in a row of several tanks on one pad. The trade is height. At 134 inches the manway sits over eleven feet up, so measure the ceiling, the door header and any overhead pipe before you order, and plan on a platform or a fixed ladder for anyone who has to look into the manway. A tall slim tank shows every bit of lean, so the pad must be flat and level. Our guide to pad sizing for above ground polyethylene tanks covers the pad. For a reuse train that stores grey water or condensate by quality, see how a reuse storage train is banded; for a rural fire reserve, fire water reservoir design for remote sites. Check the volume against your draw with the tank sizing calculator and the tank sizing guide.
What the 1.9 rating buys you
A 1.9 specific gravity rating means the wall is built for liquids up to 1.9 times the weight of water. Full of water this tank holds 7923 lb of liquid; full of a liquid at the rating limit it holds about 15050 lb. Heavy fertilizer solutions and many concentrated chemicals sit between those two figures, and that extra weight pushes outward on the lower sidewall all day. The standard 1.5 build is fine for water; the heavy duty build is the one to buy when the liquid is dense, when the tank cycles full and empty often, or when you simply want the longer warranty.
Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a siphon tube, factory installed. The siphon tube lets the outlet draw from lower in the tank than the fitting itself sits. A 2 inch valve or camlock threads straight in; support the valve and the first length of pipe so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, wide enough for a fill line, a float switch and a cleaning brush. Keep the vent clear.
- Liquid and temperature. At or below 1.9 specific gravity and at or below 120 F. Check anything other than water against polyethylene before the first fill.
- Drawing. Norwesco's drawing for this tank, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, shows the fitting height and the siphon tube arrangement.

Shipping and receiving
The tank ships LTL at freight class 300 from Norwesco's Fairfield, Texas plant, upright, 48 by 48 by 134 inches and 249 lb. Tell us where it is going and whether there is a dock or a forklift there, and we will route it accordingly. The listed price is before freight; the freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP. At the tailgate, check the part number 44820B against the bill of lading, look over the full height of the sidewall for transit damage, stand it on the pad and fill it with water the first time before anything heavier goes in.
