The 120 Gallon Plastic Water Storage Tank from Norwesco is a vertical polyethylene tank that stands 31 inches tall on a 38-inch diameter footprint, which makes it a compact pick for tight pump houses, equipment sheds, and trailers where headroom is limited but you still want a meaningful water reserve. At 120 gallons, this is a true vertical water storage tank built for water service, rated to a specific gravity of 1.0 to match plain water.

Will it work for your site?

The short, wide profile is the defining trait. With a 38-inch diameter and only 31 inches of height, the tank stays low and stable, which helps when you are fitting it under a shelf, into a vehicle, or against a low ceiling. Filled, it carries 1,001 pounds of water, so design your pad or platform for the loaded figure, not the empty tank. Spread across the 38-inch (about 7.9 square foot) circle, that works out to roughly 88 pounds per square foot of bearing load, so confirm your slab or stand handles it before you set the tank. For a concrete pour, our concrete pad sizing guide walks through the framework. To match gallons to your actual draw and refill cycle, run the numbers through our Tank Sizing Calculator and read the Tank Sizing Guide.

Fittings and commissioning

The technical drawing on this page shows the molded-in details for this tank, including a sump with a 4-segment layout and a revised lid thread. Because the lid thread was revised, an older lid or an off-the-shelf bulkhead may not match, so check the thread and the sump on the drawing before you order valves, bulkhead fittings, or a fill setup, and pair any penetration with a gasket rated for the flange shown. Once it is plumbed, do a water-fill acceptance test and leak-check the sump and lid fittings while monitoring the pad for settlement, following our hydrostatic test methodology guide. If you have questions about adapting the sump or lid to your fittings, call 866-418-1777 and we will walk through it.

The specific-gravity mistake to avoid

This tank is rated for a specific gravity of 1.0, which is exactly water. That rating is the most common thing people get wrong with a vertical storage tank: it is sized for the weight of water, not for heavier liquids. If you are storing anything denser than water, this is not the tank for that duty, and you would need a unit rated for a higher specific gravity. For straight water storage, vertical water storage, and general storage tank use, it is a clean fit. If you need a higher-SG rating for a denser liquid, use the Tank Sizing Calculator or call 866-418-1777 and we will spec the right unit.

This Norwesco tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP code. At roughly 1,001 pounds loaded and shipped empty as poly, freight comes down mostly to how close you are to the origin, and we ship from the nearest of five Norwesco plants: Fairfield, TX; Griffin, GA; Hanford, CA; Owego, NY; or Shawnee, OK. That spread means a closer plant for most ZIPs. Get your number in seconds with the Freight Cost Estimator, or call 866-418-1777 to confirm fittings, lead time, and shipping before you buy.
