The mistake to avoid
The single most common error on a black rainwater tank is treating the 1” NPT bulkhead as the whole plumbing plan. It is a fixed outlet size, so size your valve or spigot to a 1” NPT male mating thread with a compatible bulkhead gasket, and confirm that a 1” feed matches your pump inlet and demand flow — oversizing your draw against a 1” bulkhead will starve the pump. Plan your overflow too: a rain tank fills to the top in a heavy event, and unmanaged overflow against 11,000-plus pounds of standing water can undermine the pad.
