Where the low 1500 goes

Buy this shape when the site has ground but not height, or when the tank has to be worked from the top without a ladder. Rainwater harvesting off a large roof, where the inlet comes in low from a first-flush diverter and the tank sits beside the building under the eave; a stock water reserve in open country where wind matters and a tall tank would be a sail; a nurse or fill tank beside a field where a sprayer fills through the manway; a household reserve behind a fence that the neighbours do not want to look at. At 60 inches tall the manway is at chest height, so filling from a hose, dropping a pump in and cleaning by hand are all done from the ground. The 93 inch base makes it the steadiest tank at this capacity, and the weight is spread over a wide circle, but there is a lot of it: full, the tank puts more than six tons on the ground, so the base must be flat, level, continuous, engineered and poured wider than the floor; the concrete pad sizing guide gives the framework. What you give up is head: with five feet of water over the outlet, a gravity line from this tank runs slowly, so plan on a pump for anything that needs flow. Run the overflow to daylight away from the pad so a full tank never washes out its own footing. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. A 2 inch valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight in. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries water, not hardware.
2. Inlet. A 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting for the fill line, a float valve or the overflow.
3. Manway. A 16 inch vented manway on top, at chest height on this tank: wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, drop a float in, and get a hand and a brush inside to clean. The vent lets air in and out as the level changes; never plug it.

A tank nearly eight feet across does not come off on a liftgate; plan on a forklift, a loader or three people and a clear drive, and tell us about the site when you order.
