A 300 gallon black water tank that is wider than it is tall
The Norwesco 300 gallon vertical water storage tank, part number 41532, is the wide 300: a black polyethylene tank 46 inches in diameter and only 50 inches tall, weighing 59 lb empty. It comes with a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting as the outlet, a 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting as the inlet and a 16 inch vented manway on top. The tank is rated for water, specific gravity 1.0; 300 gallons of water weighs 2502 lb. The resin is FDA compliant and UV stabilized, and Norwesco backs the tank with a 3 year warranty. Where the wide 300 goes
At 50 inches tall, this tank fits under a porch roof, a lean-to, a carport or a low shed ceiling, and on a trailer deck it stays under most height limits with the manway still reachable. The 46 inch base makes it the most stable tank at this capacity: a wide, low tank does not want to tip when it is empty and does not need the strapping a tall one does, though we still anchor anything on a vehicle or in a windy yard. Buyers use it as a household reserve in a low crawl space or utility shed, a rain tank beside a barn, a stock tank filled from the top through the manway, a nurse tank on a flatbed, and a wash-down or mixing reservoir where somebody has to reach inside to clean it every season. What you give up is head: with only four feet of water over the outlet, a gravity line from this tank runs slowly, so anything that needs flow wants a pump at or below the outlet. Full, it carries 2502 lb spread over a 46 inch circle, which is gentler on the ground than the same weight on a narrow tank, but the base still has to be flat, level and continuous under the whole floor. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. A 2 inch valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight in, and a 2 inch drain empties the tank quickly. Support the valve and the first length of hose so the fitting carries water, not hardware.
- Inlet. A 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting for the fill line or the overflow. Run an overflow to daylight away from the base.
- Manway. A 16 inch vented manway on top, at chest height on this tank: wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, drop a float in, and get a hand and a brush inside to clean. The vent lets air in and out as the level changes; never plug it.
