The Chem-Tainer TC4246CB is a 250-gallon open top tank with a 20-degree cone bottom, molded in polypropylene for chemical service that needs full drainage. As a cone tank, the sloped floor discharges contents toward a single low point, so solids and slurries clear out instead of settling into a flat-bottom heel. At 42 inches in diameter and 46 inches tall, it stands on a 42.0 x 42.0 inch footprint and carries a 2.0 specific gravity rating. This is the cone-bottom-NO-stand configuration, so plan to set it in a support stand or structure that holds the cone clear of the floor for gravity discharge.

Will it hold your chemical?

The shell is polypropylene rated to carry contents up to a 2.0 specific gravity. Run the math against your actual fluid before you order: water fills this tank to roughly 2,085 pounds, and at the full 2.0 SG rating the contents can reach about 4,170 pounds. If your chemical is denser than water, confirm its specific gravity stays at or under 2.0 at your operating concentration and temperature. The 2.0 SG rating governs the weight the shell can carry, not chemical attack, so confirm material compatibility separately. Match the resin and the SG rating to your fluid using the OEM chemical-resistance chart, read at your specific concentration and temperature, and our Chemical Compatibility Database.

Cone angle, open top, and fitting layout

The 20-degree cone is the shallower end of the cone-bottom range and saves vertical height versus a steeper cone. Before you commit, walk through the tradeoffs in our cone-bottom drainage comparison and the cone angle selection guide. The open top simplifies fill and inspection on this cone tank, but it ships without a pre-set bulkhead or fitting layout, so you specify where vent, fill, level, and drain connections go. Those placements affect cross-contamination and maintenance access for the life of the tank. Our top fitting placement guide covers that layout, and you can confirm dimensions against the technical drawing on this page.

The mistake to avoid

The common error on a cone-bottom tank is treating the 2.0 SG rating as a license to store anything. The rating governs the weight the shell can carry, not chemical attack. A fluid can be light enough to pass the SG check and still degrade the wrong resin, so verify polypropylene compatibility separately from the weight calculation. Remember that any field-added bulkhead fittings and their gaskets must be chemically compatible too, not just the shell: on a cone bottom, the drain at the low point is the most chemically loaded joint and a common real-world leak point. The second error is undersizing the support: this is a no-stand cone tank, and the cone must be fully supported off the floor before you fill it. Size the vessel to your real volume and turnover with our Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide so you buy the cone bottom that actually fits your process.

The TC4246CB ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP. Chem-Tainer molds this tank at plants in Hanford, CA and West Babylon, NY, so the estimator quotes from whichever plant is nearest you rather than a single coast — coverage that keeps the lane shorter and pre-empts the freight surprise.
