Where it goes

As a septic tank the house drain enters through the inlet tee, solids settle, and clarified effluent leaves through the outlet tee for the drainfield. As a pump tank it holds effluent between pump cycles. As a cistern it stores rainwater, hauled water or a fire reserve; 1000 gallons of water weighs 8340 lb, which is the load the bedding carries when the tank is full. The state approval list on this part number is Minnesota, Ohio, Oklahoma and Utah; Norwesco sells the same shell under other part numbers for other states, and we will point you to the right one.

What comes with it, and what to check

1. Tees and gaskets. A 4 inch gasketed PVC tee assembly at the inlet and at the outlet, with the gaskets. They take 4 inch drain pipe. The gaskets seal the pipe where it passes through the wall, so they are the parts to keep clean and dry until the plumber arrives.
2. Manholes. Two 20 inch gasketed manways, both covers included. Gasketed lids keep groundwater out of the tank and gas in.
3. Risers. Norwesco's optional risers and extensions, two of each for the two manholes: the N-63514 6 inch extension, N-62397 15 inch extension, N-62396 24 inch extension, N-62395 25 inch riser with 12 inch lid and N-63830 36 inch riser with 6 inch lid. Measure tank top to finished grade before ordering.
4. Drawing. Norwesco's drawing, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, gives the inlet and outlet invert heights and the manhole spacing for laying out the hole.

It travels 102 by 60 by 63 inches at 375 lb. The listed price is before freight; the freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP. At the tailgate, check 44463 on the bill of lading, count both manhole covers and both tee assemblies, and walk the shell for transit damage before you sign. Set it on the bedding in Norwesco's installation instructions, fill it with water as you backfill so the walls stay round, and keep vehicles off the ground above it.
