Why two compartments
A two compartment tank settles solids in the first chamber and passes clearer liquid through a baffle to the second before it leaves for the drain field, which keeps the field cleaner and is the design most state and county codes now ask for on a new system. What to check before you buy
- The permit. Confirm with the county that a plastic two compartment tank of this capacity is accepted and that Norwesco's state approval covers you. Do that before the tank ships, not at inspection.
- Inlet and outlet. Both are 4 inch gasketed PVC tee assemblies, factory fitted. Your 4 inch sewer line glues to them; the gaskets seal the tank wall, the tees keep scum off the outlet.
- The manways. Two 20 inch gasketed manways, one over each compartment, so both chambers can be pumped and inspected. Risers to grade are the installer's choice and depend on the burial depth.
- Burial depth and water table. A plastic tank is light when empty, so a high water table can lift it; follow Norwesco's installation instructions for backfill and for keeping water in the tank as the hole is filled.
