The Norwesco 300 Gallon Horizontal Elliptical Cradle Tank in white is a haul-and-store poly tank built for mobile and stationary duty where an upright tank cannot go. It runs 70" long by 48" wide by 36" high on an elliptical cradle profile that keeps the load low and stable, and at 114 lbs empty it is a single-person or light-equipment placement onto a skid, trailer, or truck bed. The 300-gallon body carries a 16" lid for fill and inspection access and a 1.25" outlet for draw-down, and it is FDA approved with a maximum service temperature of 120 F (48 C).
Will it work for your load
This is a 1.5 specific-gravity tank, meaning the polyethylene wall is rated for contents up to 1.5 times the density of water. Full of water, 300 gallons weighs about 2,502 lbs; at the tank's full 1.5 SG rating the contents can reach roughly 3,753 lbs. Size your cradle, trailer axle, and tie-downs to the loaded number, not the empty 114 lbs. The 48" x 70" footprint is your mounting envelope. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide to confirm capacity and loaded weight before you commit a frame. If this tank is headed onto a farm fleet for fertilizer or utility hauling, our guides on Norwesco loaf-style portable utility tanks and the 49 CFR 173.5 agricultural exemption and applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer walk the DOT classification questions before you roll.
Chemical compatibility
The tank wall is rated to 1.5 SG in a polyethylene resin listed here as HDLPE; because that resin carries a "?", confirm HDLPE vs XLPE before putting anything but water in it. Per the Snyder Industries OEM chemical resistance chart — which is concentration- and temperature-specific — this 1.5-SG tank suits acetic acid (60%), aluminum sulfate (50%), calcium chloride (40%), DEF (32.5%), ferrous sulfate (20%), magnesium chloride (30%), sodium carbonate (30%), urea solution (50%), and ozonated water (up to 10 PPM). Note that DEF and urea only call for a 1.35-SG wall, so this 1.5-rated tank clears both with rating to spare — useful headroom on a hard-working DEF or fertilizer fleet. Match the fitting and gasket to the chemical: PP/PVC fittings with EPDM gaskets on acetic acid and urea, 316SS with EPDM on DEF, PVC with EPDM on the salts. Every chemical in this 1.5-compatible set runs an EPDM gasket.
If your chemistry is denser or an oxidizer
Some chemistries need a higher 1.9-SG Norwesco tank, not this one — running them here risks the shell. Denser acids and oxidizers such as ethylene glycol (100%), hydrochloric acid (37%), sulfuric acid (98%), phosphoric acid (85%), sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide (50%), ferric chloride (50%), and peracetic acid (30%) all require the 1.9-SG rating. The oxidizers in that group also force a Viton gasket (hypochlorite, peroxide, sulfuric) or Aflas (peracetic) rather than EPDM — an EPDM gasket on bleach will fail. We stock the higher-SG Norwesco tanks and can spec the right one; call 866-418-1777. Verify your exact chemical, concentration, and temperature on the chemical compatibility resource first.
The mistake to avoid
The costliest error on a cradle tank is spec'ing to empty weight or a water baseline. A liquid heavier than water rides at the 1.5-SG contents figure near 3,753 lbs, and an undersized cradle or trailer will flex, crack the elliptical shell at the saddle, or fail the tie-downs in transit. Confirm your resin (HDLPE vs XLPE), build the mount to the loaded number, and remember that the chemical-rated fittings and gaskets are specified and sold separately to the fluid — the 1.25" outlet and 16" lid do not ship plumbed to your chemistry. We'll spec the correct fittings (PP/PVC, 316SS, CPVC) and gaskets (EPDM, Viton, or Aflas) for your service. See the technical drawing on this page for dimensioned fitting locations.
