The Norwesco 300 Gallon Horizontal Elliptical Cradle Tank Offset (SKU N-45746) is a white polyethylene haul-and-store tank built for the cradle footprint, measuring 70" long by 48" wide by 33" high with an integrated saddle that seats it flat on a skid, trailer deck, or flatbed. The 16" fill lid sits offset on the cradle top rather than centered, and the tank runs a 1.25" outlet, a 1.5 specific gravity rating, and FDA approval. Empty it weighs 114 lb, so one or two people can position it before it is anchored and plumbed.

Will it handle your load

The 1.5 SG rating is the number that decides fit. Filled with water the contents weigh about 2,502 lb; run the tank up to its 1.5 SG ceiling and the contents can reach roughly 3,753 lb. That is the figure your cradle, straps, and vehicle suspension have to carry, not the empty weight. The elliptical horizontal shape keeps the center of gravity low for transport, which is why this style shows up on fertilizer applicators, utility rigs, and portable haul setups. Keep contents at or below 120 F / 48 C. If you are moving product on the road, our guides on portable utility tanks and the 49 CFR 173.5 ag exemption and on applicator and leg tanks under NRT scope cover the DOT questions this shape raises. If you are not sure the 300-gallon size matches your gallons-per-load math, run the numbers through our Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide before you buy.

Chemical compatibility

This is a 1.5 SG polyethylene tank. The resin is listed as HDLPE but not confirmed, so verify HDLPE versus XLPE with us before putting it into any chemical service. Per the Snyder Industries OEM chemical resistance chart — which is concentration- and temperature-specific — a 1.5 SG poly tank at matched concentration and temperature can suit acetic acid (60%), aluminum sulfate (50%), calcium chloride (40%), ferrous sulfate (20%), magnesium chloride (30%), sodium carbonate (30%), and ozonated water (up to 10 PPM), each with PVC or PP fittings and EPDM gaskets. DEF (32.5%) and urea solution (50%) only require a 1.35 SG tank, so they sit comfortably inside this tank's 1.5 SG margin — a fit for the DEF and fertilizer haul crowd this cradle shape is built for — though DEF wants 316SS fittings with EPDM. Match fittings and gaskets to the exact chemical, and confirm your concentration, temperature, and fitting plus gasket materials against the chemical compatibility chart first.

A few chemicals need a heavier tank

Some fluids exceed what a 1.5 SG tank is rated for and require a higher-SG (1.9) tank instead. If your service is ethylene glycol, ferric chloride, hydrochloric acid (37%), hydrogen peroxide (50%), phosphoric acid (85%), sodium hypochlorite, sulfuric acid (98%), or another of the roughly nineteen 1.9-rated chemicals on the chart, do not use this tank. Those also change the sealing hardware — the acids above call for Viton gaskets rather than EPDM, and sulfuric acid at 98% specifically needs CPVC fittings, not PVC — which is exactly why fitting and gasket confirmation matters. Putting a heavy chemical in a tank rated below its density is the single most common and most expensive mistake with horizontal poly. Call us and we will point you to the correct specific-gravity model.

Freight

This tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP. It ships from the nearest Norwesco plant — Albertville, AL or Sheldon, IA — so your rate depends on which plant serves your delivery point. Get a real number with the Freight Cost Estimator, or call 866-418-1777 and we will confirm the resin, size the tank to your load, and quote freight. See the technical drawing on this page for dimensions and fitting locations before you plumb it in.
