Where a cradle tank earns its place
A cradle tank is built to sit in a steel cradle or on a flat bed and travel. Three hundred gallons is a working quantity: a day's spray water or nurse supply on a trailer, a transfer tank in a pickup bed, a rinse or mix supply beside a machine. At 48 inches wide it fits between the wheel wells of a full size pickup, and at 70 inches long it lies across most utility trailers with room to strap. Full of water it weighs about 2500 lb, so the vehicle's payload rating decides what you can carry, not the tank. The tank needs a cradle or a flat, continuous support under the whole elliptical bottom; a cradle tank set on two rails or a few blocks will flex at the unsupported span. What goes in it
Water, liquid fertilizer and the common farm chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Check anything else against our chemical compatibility guide first; the entries for urea solution, DEF, calcium chloride, sodium hypochlorite and magnesium chloride are the ones cradle tank buyers ask about most. - Inlet and outlet. Both are 1.25 inch, set off centre. Norwesco's drawing, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, shows exactly where they sit, which is what you need to plan the pump and the hose run. - Lid. A 16 inch lid on top, wide enough to fill from a hose, drop a float in and get a brush inside.
- Drain time. A 1.25 inch outlet empties 300 gallons at a measured pace. If you fill a sprayer from it by gravity, that is the figure to check before you order.
