In the truck bed
Measure three things before you order: the width between the wheel wells, the bed length with the tailgate closed, and the height from the bed floor to the top of the bed rail. The tank is 58 inches wide, 60 inches long and 30 inches tall; a full size bed takes it, a mid size bed often does not. Then look at the payload sticker on the door jamb. A full tank of water is more than a ton and a quarter before the pump, the hose reel and the driver, and a half ton pickup is named for a reason. The tank goes against the front of the bed, strapped over the body to the bed anchors, never over the lid, and the outlet faces the tailgate so the hose runs out the back. What goes in it
Water for dust control, stock, a remote site or a garden is the usual load, with liquid fertilizer and the common farm chemicals that polyethylene handles behind it. White shows the level through the wall from the driver's door. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water need a heavy duty tank, not this one, and anything unusual should be checked against the material before the first fill; ask us if you are not sure. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. A 2 inch ball valve or a camlock adapter threads straight into it, and 2 inch hose drains the tank at a useful rate for a pump or gravity. Support the valve and the first length of hose so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware, and make sure the valve clears the tailgate when it closes.
- Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid on top: wide enough to fill from a hose or a hydrant nozzle and to drop a float or a suction line through. The vent lets air in as the pump draws down, so keep it clear.
