A 3000 gallon heavy duty vertical tank, short and wide, for dense liquids
The Norwesco 3000 gallon heavy duty vertical storage tank, part number 43138, is a light blue high density linear polyethylene tank 102 inches in diameter and 93 inches tall, weighing 457 lb empty. It is the low, wide 3000 gallon shape, built for sites where height is the constraint: under a roof, a canopy or a mezzanine, or anywhere a ladder to the manway is not wanted. It comes with a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting as the outlet and a 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. Where the short, wide shape wins
At 93 inches tall this tank clears a standard overhead door and fits under most pole barn eaves, and the manway is reachable from a short step. The cost of that is footprint: 102 inches across needs a pad to match, flat, level and continuous under the whole base, because a polyethylene tank carries its load on the full bottom, not on a ring. The heavy duty wall is the reason to choose this over the standard tank: fertilizers, brines, acids and other liquids heavier than 1.5 times water need it, and water buyers who want the extra margin for a long service life choose it too. Where two or three of these stand in a row, the wide footprint also keeps the manways at a working height for a shared fill header.
What goes in it
Polyethylene handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals, and the 1.9 rating admits the dense ones. Check the liquid in our chemical compatibility guide before the first fill. Anything hotter than 120 F is outside the rating; exothermic blends and hot process water are the usual ways a tank gets there without anyone meaning it to. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. Your valve threads straight into it. Fit the valve before the first fill and support the pipe within a foot or so of the tank so the fitting carries liquid, not the weight of a valve and a hose.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top for filling, a float or a level sensor, and cleaning access. Keep the vent clear; a pump pulling from a tank with a blocked vent will collapse the wall.
