Why the riser matters

A buried tank is only as useful as your access to it. Every cistern needs the lid reachable for inspection, cleaning, a float switch and the suction line, and on a tank set deep enough to keep the top below frost or below a drive, a flush manway ends up under two feet of soil. The riser on this tank brings the opening up so the lid can sit at the surface. The whole assembly is 96 inches tall; take the depth of your excavation to the bottom of the tank, subtract 96 inches, and that is where the lid lands relative to grade. If your set is shallower, the plain 5025 gallon cistern without the riser is the same tank without the extension, and Norwesco's extensions can take either version higher. What to check before you buy

1. Depth to grade. Measure from the planned tank bottom to finished grade. The riser top is at 96 inches. If you need more, Norwesco's options for this manway are 6 inch, 15 inch and 24 inch extensions, a 23 inch riser with a 12 inch lid and a 36 inch riser with a 6 inch lid; tell us the number and we will add the right piece to the order.
2. The hole and the cover. The footprint is 211 by 102 inches. Norwesco's installation instructions set the bedding, the backfill, the maximum cover and the high water table conditions. Nothing drives over a buried polyethylene tank.
3. Fittings. None are installed. Plan the fill, the suction line and the overflow, and we will ship the bulkhead fittings with the tank. The drawing linked under Technical Drawing on this page shows the wall layout.
4. The water. The resin is FDA compliant per Norwesco. For drinking water service, ask us for Norwesco's current documentation on this model before you order.
5. Septic use. This tank is sold as a cistern. If the job is wastewater, read our note on Norwesco septic tank approvals and ask us for the tank your health department will accept.

This is an oversize freight shipment: 211 by 102 by 96 inches and 1905 lb, on a flatbed or specialised trailer from the nearest of Norwesco's Fairfield, Texas, Hanford, California or St. Bonifacius, Minnesota plants. The listed price is before freight; the freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP. Have an excavator or loader with rated straps on site to unload, and room for the truck to turn. At the tailgate, check the part number against 44877 on the bill of lading, walk the shell and look at the riser joint for transit damage before the driver leaves, and set the tank the same day if the hole is ready.
