Where a tall 850 gallon tank goes

This tank keeps 850 gallons on the floor space of a tank half its size by going up: 48 inches across and 118 inches tall, which is nearly ten feet. It is the tank for a narrow side yard, the gable end of a barn, a slot between buildings, or a processing floor where every square foot is spoken for. It needs headroom to match and a way to reach the manway. The jobs are a household or farm water reserve on a slow well, rainwater from a large roof, a sprayer or fertilizer fill point, and a fire or drought reserve on a rural lot. Full of water it weighs 7089 lb on a 48 inch circle, so it needs a flat, continuous, level concrete pad or a sound slab that will not settle unevenly, never soil or gravel alone. What goes in it

Water, liquid fertilizer and the treatment and cleaning chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Check anything else in our chemical compatibility guide first, and ask us about anything that is not listed. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water need a heavy duty tank, and nothing hotter than 120 F belongs in it. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. A 2 inch valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight into it. With nearly ten feet of head above it, a full tank pushes harder on the outlet than a short tank of the same volume, so fit the valve before the first fill and support it and the first length of pipe on their own; never leave the valve hanging on the fitting.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, 118 inches up, so plan a fixed platform or a ladder to use it. It is wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, to drop a float or a suction line through, and to reach inside to clean. The vent lets the tank breathe as the level changes.
3. Extra fittings. An overflow near the top, a return line or a second draw-off is a bulkhead fitting through the wall. Tell us before the order and we quote it with the tank. Dry-fit, then hand tight plus a quarter turn.

Have two people and a clear path at the tailgate; the empty tank is light but long. Check the part number against 42839 on the bill of lading, look along the full length of the wall for transit scuffs or cracks, make sure the manway lid is on and turns freely, stand the tank on its pad before you do anything else, and fill it with water the first time so any problem shows up with something harmless in it.
