What to check before you buy
- The tank. A 4035, confirmed from its part number. Elliptical leg tanks look alike from the ground and each size takes its own ladder; a ladder for the wrong shell lands on open wall instead of a leg or a rib.
- Who lifts it. At 125 lb and seven feet tall this is a two person job at the least, and a forklift or a loader makes it a safe one. Plan that before the truck arrives, not after.
- Room to fit it. The ladder has to be offered up to the tank with room to stand behind it. A tank parked tight against a wall or a fence does not give you that room.
- Access rules on your site. A fixed ladder on a tank is access equipment, and what it has to satisfy is decided by your site and whoever signs off the installation. Fitting it
Offer the ladder up with the tank empty, support it at both ends while it is positioned, attach the hardware finger tight, and tighten only once it sits where it will live, square to the tank and landing on a leg or a moulded rib rather than open wall. Climb it once empty and once with the tank full; the shell sits differently under load and a ladder that was plumb on an empty tank can lean on a full one.
