The Snyder Industries 1650 Gallon XLPE Heavy Duty Cone Bottom Tank is built for chemical service where ordinary polyethylene falls short. It carries a 1.9 specific gravity rating, holds 1,650 gallons, and is molded in black crosslinked linear polyethylene (XLPE) - the heavy-duty resin Snyder uses when the contents are aggressive or dense. The conical floor drains completely to the centerline, which is exactly what you want for batch mixing, settling, and full evacuation between chemistries. At 94" H x 86" x 86", it stands on an 86 x 86 inch footprint and needs a matching cone-bottom stand to hold the cone off the ground.

Will it work for your application?

This is a 1.9 SG tank, so the wall thickness is rated for liquids up to 1.9 times the weight of water - the heavy-duty ceiling for this cone bottom, with no higher-SG step-up needed or offered for this body. Filled with water it carries about 13,761 lb; loaded to its maximum rated contents it is engineered for roughly 26,146 lb. That headroom is the reason buyers reach for XLPE cone bottoms over standard 1.5 SG vertical tanks for dense salt brines and concentrated acids. Per the technical drawing on this page, the tank ships with this factory fitting configuration:

  • Flange
  • 10" PE threaded and vented fitting
  • Fill cap with 7" access opening

Chemical compatibility

The tank shell is XLPE rated to 1.9 specific gravity. Crosslinked polyethylene resists stress cracking from oxidizers and concentrated chemistries far better than standard HDPE, which is why it is the right shell for the chemicals below. Always confirm against the OEM chemical-resistance chart for your exact concentration and temperature - compatibility is concentration- and temperature-specific, and fittings and gaskets must be specified separately from the shell. Verified compatible chemistries for this tank include Acetic Acid at 60% (PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gasket), Aluminum Sulfate at 50%, Calcium Chloride at 40%, DEF at 32.5%, Ethylene Glycol at 100%, Ferric Chloride at 50%, Ferric Sulfate at 60%, Ferrous Sulfate at 20%, Hydrofluosilicic Acid at 26%, Magnesium Chloride at 30%, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate at 50%, Potassium Hydroxide (saturated), Propylene Glycol, Sodium Carbonate at 30%, Sodium Thiosulfate at 40%, Urea Solution at 50%, and Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM. Most of these call for PVC fittings with EPDM gaskets, but watch the exceptions: DEF needs 316 stainless fittings, Propylene Glycol needs PP or 316 stainless, and Hydrofluosilicic Acid requires Viton gaskets rather than EPDM. The mistake to avoid

The XLPE shell is chemical-resistant, but crosslinked polyethylene cannot be heat-welded for field repairs the way HDPE can - plan your fittings up front rather than counting on welding a new bung later. Just as important, do not assume the standard PVC/EPDM fitting set covers everything: DEF runs on 316 stainless, and hydrofluosilicic acid demands Viton gaskets.
