Small systems that take a partial tanker

A small water system or a wastewater lagoon buys this tank when the chemical arrives by tanker but a tanker is too much. Three hundred gallons is a partial drop the hauler will make on a route, or a few totes pumped over the lid, and it is enough to run a small system between deliveries without holding hypochlorite so long that it loses strength. Hypochlorite is the classic load, because light degrades it and the black wall passes none; ferric and the dense coagulants are the others, and they are why the wall is rated 1.9. The delivery looks like a hose from the truck to the lid at six feet ten inches, a person on a step at the lid, and a vent path for the air the liquid displaces. A slim tank nearly seven feet tall on a 35 inch base is strapped to a wall or a frame before the first fill, while it is empty. Full at the rating it puts nearly two and a half tons on a 35 inch circle, all of it on the slab, so the pad is engineered per the concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a curb or a berm where the liquid is regulated. Black polyethylene absorbs the ultraviolet that ages a white wall, runs warmer than white in the sun, so a hypochlorite tank wants the shade side of the building, and hides the level, so a sender or a sight tube is the gauge. Black or natural, linear or cross-linked, in the 300 gallon shell

The black linear wall is the one for hypochlorite where the specification does not call for cross-linked, and for any dense liquid that light spoils. Priming a chemical feed pump on a hypochlorite tank

• Pump: hypochlorite gives off gas, and gas in a suction line is how a metering pump loses prime. Mount the pump below the 2 inch outlet so the head keeps the suction flooded, run the suction line rising to the pump with no high spot where a bubble can sit, and fit a degassing head or an automatic vent where the pump allows one. A low-level switch stops the pump before the last inch, and a calibration column lets the dose be checked against the meter.
• Outlet: 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting. Name the liquid at order and the fitting, gasket and bolting are matched to it; a flexible connector to hard pipe and the first valve supported off the pad.
• Access: 8 inch lid at 82 inches, reached from a step. Fill through it from the truck's hose, keep it closed between deliveries so the gas stays in and light stays out, and leave headspace.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Seven feet of head on the outlet fitting means a flexible connector and a supported valve, because the pipe run must never carry pump vibration or thermal movement back into a slim wall. The wall carries the chemical's name, the date of the last delivery and its strength; a hypochlorite log is how a small plant knows when the tank is worth topping up and when it is worth draining.
