Where the low, wide 300 goes
Fifty inches of height puts this tank under a greenhouse bench line, under a low shed roof, in a basement with ductwork across the ceiling, on a trailer deck under a cap, or anywhere a person wants to fill from a bucket or a hose without a step. It is the usual choice for a stock water tank fed from a hydrant, a mix tank beside a sprayer, a rinse reserve in a wash bay, or a household water reserve in a low utility room. Forty-six inches across does not pass an interior doorway standing up, so plan the route in before the tank arrives; through a double door or an overhead door it is no trouble. The base must be flat, continuous and level out to the full 46 inch edge, with nothing packed under one side; a rotomolded floor bears on whatever touches it and nothing else. A wall band is cheap insurance where carts and mowers pass, even on a shape this steady.
What goes in it
Water, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads, kept under 120 F. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water need the heavy duty tank in this family rather than this one. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. Your valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of pipe so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid on top: a fill hose, a float switch and a hand with a brush go through it, and at 50 inches it is at a height you can reach into. The vent lets air in as the tank drains; never plug it.
