215inches tall. Taller than a two-story ceiling.
At 215 inches the tank stands just under 18 feet. A standard 96 inch ceiling comes to its waist. Nothing this size goes through a doorway or under a carport, so the pad is chosen before the tank is.
79,230pounds of water when full. Water alone weighs 79,230 pounds.
Multiply 9,500 gallons by 8.34 pounds per gallon and you have the load on your pad before you count the tank. The 1.5 specific gravity walls carry contents up to 118,845 pounds, and the 1.9 walls up to 150,537 pounds. Size the pad for the liquid you will actually store, not for water.
The eight tanks
Start with the wall. Resin sets what the tank can hold and how hot; the specific gravity rating sets how heavy a liquid the wall is built for. Pick a cell to narrow the list.

Every size of vertical tanks, or call 866-418-1777 for the one you need.
The eight tanks, and how they differ
Every tank on this page shares one mold: 120 inch diameter, 215 inch height, an 18 inch threaded vented manway on top, a 3 year warranty, and a Lincoln, Nebraska plant. What changes is the wall, and the wall is the whole decision.
The two white HDPE tanks are the entry point. Snyder lists them at a 1.9 specific gravity rating with a 120 degree F maximum, FDA compliant resin and NSF/ANSI 61, and one of the two carries an ASTM listing on top. They ship at 3,800 and 3,600 pounds and clear 27,036 and 38,339 dollars before freight.
The black and natural white crosslinked polyethylene tanks are the chemical and heat choice. XLPE holds its shape at 140 degrees F where linear resin tops out at 120, and it shrugs off the impact and stress cracking that take linear tanks out of service early. Snyder offers them in two wall ratings: 1.5 specific gravity at 2,800 pounds shipped, listed at 30,659 dollars, and the heavy duty 1.9 at 3,600 pounds, listed at 38,829 dollars.
Between them sits the black linear polyethylene pair: a 1.5 specific gravity standard wall at 2,800 pounds and 28,009 dollars, and a high density linear heavy duty wall rated 1.9 at 3,600 pounds and 38,339 dollars. Both list FDA compliant resin and NSF/ANSI 61 and both carry the 120 degree F ceiling of linear resin.
If your liquid is water, rainwater, fire reserve or anything with a specific gravity of 1.0, the 1.5 rated walls are already a wide margin and the 1.9 rating is paying for strength you will not use. If the liquid is denser, hotter than 120 degrees F, or a chemical that attacks linear resin, the XLPE 1.9 tank is the one that does not need replacing.

What 9,500 gallons is on the ground
Taller than a two-story ceiling. At 215 inches the tank stands just under 18 feet. A standard 96 inch ceiling comes to its waist. Nothing this size goes through a doorway or under a carport, so the pad is chosen before the tank is.
A 10 foot circle of pad. The base is 120 inches across, a hair over 78 square feet. Snyder requires the full bottom to bear on a flat, level, compacted surface, not just the rim. Concrete, a compacted base of crushed rock, or a steel ring filled and leveled all work; a sloped or cupped pad does not.
Choosing by what you will store
Potable and process water
Six of the eight list NSF/ANSI 61, the standard for components that touch drinking water, and FDA compliant resin. Black walls block light and hold algae down in an outdoor tank that sits full for months; natural white lets you read the level by eye. For a municipal or well system this is the capacity of a small town's daily reserve in one vessel.
Browse potable and process water tanksRainwater harvesting
A single 9,500 gallon tank catches the first inch of rain off a 15,000 square foot roof with room to spare. Pair the 18 inch manway with a first-flush diverter and a screened inlet and the black XLPE or linear tank becomes the catchment for a shop, a barn, or an irrigation block.
Browse rainwater harvesting tanksFire suppression reserve
Rural sites without hydrants keep a dedicated draft tank, and 9,500 gallons is a common engineering figure for a sprinkler reserve or a dry hydrant supply. Ask your authority having jurisdiction which standard they enforce before you order, and keep the tank, the draft fitting and the pad in your submittal.
Browse fire suppression reserve tanksFertilizer, brine and chemicals
Liquid fertilizers and brines run well above the density of water, which is why the 1.9 specific gravity walls exist. Match the resin to the chemical, not just the weight: our chemical tank recommender checks the liquid against Snyder's own compatibility data, and the XLPE tanks cover the aggressive end of that list.

Getting it to your site, honestly
This is the part most listings skip. A 9,500 gallon tank is an oversize load: 120 inches wide and 215 inches long on the trailer, which is why the freight class on these reads 250, 300 or OVS. It travels on a flatbed, not in a van, and the driver does not unload it. You need a forklift with long forks and a spreader, or a crane with soft slings, and a clear lane to the pad on the day it lands.
Every tank here ships from Snyder's Lincoln, Nebraska plant, so the Plains, the Midwest and Texas see the shortest lanes. Listed prices are before freight. Put your ZIP in the freight cost estimator and you get a real LTL quote for this class and weight, not an estimate, and the same number our team sees.
The honest limitation: there is no cheap way to move 215 inches of polyethylene. If the site cannot take a flatbed and has no way to lift 3,600 pounds, two smaller tanks plumbed together can be the better answer, and we will tell you so on the phone.

Standards the manufacturer lists
ASTM D1998, Standard Specification for Polyethylene Upright Storage Tanks, is the construction standard for this tank family; it governs wall thickness by specific gravity, hoop stress and the test schedule. One of the eight carries Snyder's explicit ASTM listing on its spec sheet.
NSF/ANSI 61, Drinking Water System Components, is listed by Snyder on six of the eight for the resin in contact with water. FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 covers the olefin polymers themselves. We print what Snyder lists for each tank and nothing stronger; the per-tank certifications are in the comparison table and on each product page.

Install day
Set the tank on the finished pad with the manway where you can reach it from a ladder or a platform; at 215 inches you will not reach it from the ground. Leave the 18 inch threaded vented manway as the vent unless you add a dedicated one, and never seal it under a pump suction.
Pipe every fitting with a flexible connection. A full tank settles and a polyethylene wall grows in the sun, and rigid pipe will either crack the fitting or the wall. Support the pipe independently so its weight never hangs on the tank.
Keep the drawing on the job. Each of the eight has its manufacturer drawing linked from its card below with fitting locations and the tie-down provisions for your anchoring plan; the 3D model on this page is traced from that same drawing.

Questions we get about 9,500 gallon tanks
How much does a 9,500 gallon plastic tank cost?
Listed at 27,036 to 38,829 dollars before freight on this page, depending on resin and wall rating. Freight is quoted separately to your ZIP because an oversize flatbed load prices by lane.
Can I put a 9,500 gallon tank on gravel?
Yes, on compacted crushed rock that is level and extends past the 120 inch base, with the full bottom supported. Pea gravel and uncompacted fill shift under 79,230 pounds of water and void the warranty.
What is the difference between the 1.5 and 1.9 specific gravity tanks?
Wall thickness. A 1.5 rating carries liquids up to one and a half times the density of water; 1.9 carries up to 1.9 times. For water either works; for fertilizer, brine or dense chemicals buy the 1.9.
HDPE or XLPE?
Crosslinked polyethylene costs more and takes heat to 140 degrees F and harder chemical service; linear HDPE is rated to 120 degrees F and is the value choice for water. Snyder makes this mold in both.
Does it come with fittings?
Each tank ships with the 18 inch threaded vented manway. Bulkhead fittings are sized to your pipe and added at order; the drawing shows where the fitting flats are.
