Where a short, wide 220 gallon tank goes

Most vertical tanks of this capacity are five or six feet tall. This one is 44 inches, which puts the lid at waist height and lets the tank sit under a bench, a low roof, a crawl space hatch or the deck of a trailer. The price of that is a 42 inch footprint, so it needs more floor than a tall tank and will not go through a standard door upright. The jobs are water storage in a low outbuilding, a mix or holding tank under a work surface, a reserve under a deck or a raised floor, and stock water where animals would knock a tall tank over. Full of water it weighs 1835 lb spread over a 42 inch circle, so a flat, continuous, level base such as a slab or a paving base is enough; keep it off bare soil so the base is supported edge to edge. What goes in it

Water, liquid fertilizer and the treatment and cleaning chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Check anything else in our chemical compatibility guide first, and ask us about anything that is not listed. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water need a heavy duty tank, and nothing hotter than 120 F belongs in it. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. A 2 inch valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Lid. A 5 inch threaded vented lid on top. It takes a fill hose and a float switch cable and it lets the tank breathe as the level changes, but it is a small opening: nothing wider than a hand goes through it, and the tank is cleaned by flushing, not by reaching in. If you need a manway, say so and we will point you at the right tank.
3. Extra fittings. An overflow or a second draw-off is a bulkhead fitting through the wall. Tell us before the order and we quote it with the tank. Dry-fit, then hand tight plus a quarter turn.
