Where a tall, narrow 200 gallon tank goes

This tank trades floor space for height: 30 inches across and six feet tall. That makes it the 200 gallon tank for a pump room, a container, a trailer mounted sprayer fill station or the corner of a barn where a wider tank would be in the way. Jobs we see it bought for are rainwater off a shed roof, spray mix and fertilizer holding, a water reserve for a garden or livestock pen, and feed water for a small treatment plant. Full of water it weighs 1668 lb on a floor patch 30 inches across, so it needs a flat, continuous, level surface; a slab or a paving base, not bare soil. Tall tanks are also easier to push over when empty than when full, so where wind or livestock can reach it, strap it to a wall or post. What goes in it

Water, liquid fertilizer and the treatment and cleaning chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water need a heavy duty tank, and nothing hotter than 120 F belongs in it. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. A 2 inch valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight into it, and it drains a 200 gallon tank at a useful rate. Support the valve and the first length of pipe so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid on top. Fill from a hose, drop a float through it, and let the vent breathe as the level changes. On a 72 inch tank you will want a step to reach it.
3. Extra fittings. An overflow near the top or a second draw-off is a bulkhead fitting through the wall; tell us before the order and we quote it with the tank. Dry-fit, then hand tight plus a quarter turn.
