What a spot sprayer tank is for

A spot sprayer is the small rig for jobs a boom sprayer is too big for: weeds along a fence line, brush in a pasture corner, a treatment around a building, a water supply for a pressure washer or a wash-down on a job site. The tank is the reservoir; you add a small electric pump, a hose, a wand and a frame, or drop this tank into a sprayer whose original tank has split. The low, flat shape keeps the weight down near the deck so a loaded ATV or utility vehicle stays stable on a slope, and the 36 by 18 inch footprint fits the common rear rack and most mower decks and pickup toolboxes. White polyethylene lets you see the level through the wall in daylight. Polyethylene handles water, most liquid fertilizers and the common farm and garden chemicals; read the product label on anything you plan to spray, and rinse the tank between products so the next crop does not get the last one's residue.

What to check before you buy

1. The footprint. 36 inches long, 18 inches wide, 18 inches tall. Measure the rack or the frame it is going on, and allow room for the pump and the hose.
2. The opening. A 5 inch lid on top: large enough to fill from a hose or a jug and to see inside, small enough to keep splash down on a rough track. The lid is also where air gets in as the pump draws; do not seal it with tape.
3. The outlet. No outlet fitting is listed with the tank. If you are plumbing a pump to it, tell us and we confirm what the tank arrives with and which bulkhead fitting to add to the order.
4. The load. A full tank is about 210 lb plus the hardware. Strap it through a frame or around the body, never by the lid, and keep the straps off the fill neck.
5. The liquid. Keep it under 120 F and 1.5 specific gravity, and check anything unusual against polyethylene before it goes in.
