Where a 30 gallon saddle tank goes

Spot spraying from an ATV or a UTV, a small boom sprayer on a compact tractor, a wash-down or rinse water tank on a service truck, and a chemical or fertilizer side tank on a planter or an applicator are the normal homes. Thirty gallons is enough for an afternoon of spot work and light enough, at 250 lb full of water, that it does not overload a rack or a rear frame. The flat inner face of the saddle wants a flat, continuous surface to sit against, and the tank should be strapped through its moulded recesses, not around the lid. Full, it is a sloshing load; mount it as low and as close to the axle as the machine allows. What goes in it

Water, liquid fertilizer and the herbicides, insecticides and adjuvants that polyethylene handles. Check anything new in our chemical compatibility guide before the first fill; the entries small sprayer buyers ask about most are urea solution, calcium chloride, sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide and DEF. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water and anything hotter than 120 F are outside the rating. Rinse the tank after every chemical and before switching products; a 5 inch lid is wide enough to get a hose in and a hand round the inside. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 3/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed. A 3/4 inch pump inlet, a hose barb or a small ball valve threads straight into it. Dry-fit the valve and point it where the hose will run before tightening; a saddle tank is hard to reach once it is mounted.
2. Lid. A 5 inch threaded vented lid. The vent lets air in as the pump draws; keep it clear, and do not replace the lid with a solid one or the pump will pull the wall in.
3. Saddle. The tank needs saddle N-60321, sold separately. Put it on the same order so the tank and its mount arrive together.
