A 20 gallon saddle tank for a sprayer, a mower or a small applicator
The Norwesco 20 gallon white applicator saddle tank, part number 61737, is a polyethylene tank 31 inches long, 15 inches wide and 18 inches tall, weighing 16 lb empty. The saddle shape is moulded to sit against a frame rail or a fender, which is how it mounts on a tractor, a utility vehicle or a spot sprayer skid without taking up deck space. It comes with a 3/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting as the outlet and a 5 inch threaded vented lid on top. Norwesco rates the tank for liquids up to 1.5 specific gravity, which is 12.52 lb per gallon, and a service limit of 120 F, states the resin is FDA compliant, and backs the tank with a 3 year warranty. Full of water it weighs 167 lb plus the tank, which is a small number until it is hanging off one side of a machine.

Where this tank goes
Spot spraying, a boomless sprayer on a UTV, rinse water on an applicator, a chemical mix tank beside a larger nurse tank. Twenty gallons is enough for a morning of fence line or a few acres of pasture with a small boom, and the 31 by 15 inch footprint fits where a round tank will not. Because a saddle tank hangs off the side of a frame, the mounting takes the whole load plus the vibration of the machine: support the shell over as much of its contact face as you can rather than across two hard edges, and strap it so it cannot walk. What goes in it
Water, liquid fertilizer and the herbicides and pesticides that polyethylene handles, which is most of them at spray concentration. Check the liquid in our chemical compatibility guide; the entries for urea solution, DEF, calcium chloride and sodium hypochlorite are the ones small tank buyers ask about most. Rinse it between products; a sprayer tank that held a broadleaf herbicide last week will tell you so in the garden this week.
Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 3/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed. A 3/4 inch valve, hose barb or pump suction fitting threads straight in. Fit a shutoff valve at the tank so you can change a pump or a filter with liquid aboard.
- Lid. A 5 inch threaded vented lid on top, wide enough to fill from a jug or a hose and to drop a strainer basket in. Keep the vent clear; a sealed tank starves the pump.
- Mounting. No brackets or straps come with the tank. The drawing linked on this page under Technical Drawing shows the saddle profile and the fitting position so you can plan the mount before it arrives.
