Norwesco 3600 Gallon Black Vertical Storage Tank

Where it goes and what it holds

Buy this shape when ground is scarce and sky is not: a water tank beside a well house, a fire reserve against the back of a building, a process water tank in a plant yard, or a bulk tank in a fenced corner where a wider tank would block the drive. The height is the thing to plan around. The manway sits at the top of 151 inches, so filling, float valve service and cleaning need a fixed ladder or a platform, and the pad needs clear sky above it. A tall tank is also less forgiving of a poor pad than a squat one: a high spot under one edge becomes a visible lean and loads one arc of the base instead of the whole circle, and a full tank is fifteen tons of water. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a siphon tube, factory installed. The siphon tube reaches down inside the tank so the fitting can sit above the floor and still draw from near the bottom; Norwesco's drawing shows the fitting height and the tube. Your valve or pump suction threads straight into the 3 inch female thread. On a tank this tall the head pressure at the outlet is higher than on a squat tank of the same volume, so support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own within a foot of the wall and use a flexible connector before the first rigid joint.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: fill from a hose, drop a float or a level sensor in, and get a hand and a brush inside to clean. Leave the vent clear so air can move as the level changes.
3. Extra ports. Only the one outlet comes installed. An overflow, a second draw or a top fill port means extra bulkhead fittings; tell us when you order and we quote them with the tank.

The tank ships LTL at freight class 400 from Norwesco's Hanford, California plant as an 87 by 87 by 151 inch load weighing 556 lb. It travels empty and needs a forklift with long forks, a loader with straps or a crew and a clear path to the pad; the height is what makes it awkward, not the weight.
