Where it goes
Four thousand gallons is the size a rural household on hauled water, a small ranch, a market garden or a rainwater system on a large roof tends to land on: enough to ride out a dry week or a delivery gap, small enough to sit beside a building on a modest pad. The tank is just over ten feet tall on a circle eight and a half feet across, so it clears most open-sided barns and pole buildings and the manway is reached from a short ladder. Full of water it puts about 17 tons on the pad, which has to be flat, continuous and free of stones under the whole base. What goes in it
Water, rainwater, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles. At 1.5 specific gravity the heaviest full load is 50040 lb; a liquid denser than one and a half times water needs a heavy duty tank. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a 2 inch reducer, factory installed low in the wall. Pull the reducer for a 3 inch gravity line or pump suction; leave it in to plumb 2 inch. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, wide enough to fill from a hose, drop a float in, and get a brush inside. The vent lets air in and out as the level changes; never plug it.
- Inlet. No separate inlet fitting is installed. If you want a fill fitting at a set height, tell us before the tank ships.
