The Norwesco 65 Gallon Black Vertical Storage Tank is a compact, one-piece molded polyethylene vertical tank standing 43 inches tall on a square 23 x 23 inch footprint, holding 65 gallons. Its black color blocks light to discourage algae growth, which makes it a practical pick for water storage, rainwater collection, small-footprint use where floor space is tight, and rural water reserve. This is one of the smaller members of the Norwesco vertical storage tank line, and the dimensions matter: at 23 inches wide it clears a standard ~30-inch doorway and tucks into closets, sheds, and equipment rooms.

Will it hold what you need?

The tank carries a 1.5 specific gravity rating, meaning the wall is built to hold contents up to one-and-a-half times the weight of water. Filled with plain water, 65 gallons weighs roughly 542 pounds; at the full 1.5 SG rating the contents can reach about 813 pounds. That rating is a real selling point: if you are storing a solution denser than water, this tank already covers you up to 1.5 SG and roughly 813 pounds of contents without stepping up to a different tank. Use those weight numbers when you size the stand or pad underneath, because the load concentrates on that 23 x 23 inch base. Not sure 65 gallons covers your draw or refill cycle? Run the numbers through our Tank Sizing Calculator or read the Tank Sizing Guide.

Lid and fittings

This tank is configured for the Norwesco 60002 lid, which is the only fitting shown on the drawing. Outlet, bulkhead, and valve fittings are not included and should be specified separately. See the technical drawing on this page for the lid opening and overall tank geometry before you order any add-on plumbing.

How it ships

This tank moves by LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP. Norwesco molds from plants across the country, so we route from the location nearest you to keep transit short and freight reasonable. Available origin plants include Fairfield, TX; Griffin, GA; Hanford, CA; Owego, NY; Shawnee, OK; Sheldon, IA; St. Bonifacius, MN; Tooele, UT; Washington Court House, OH; and Washougal, WA. Get an exact number from the Freight Cost Estimator before you commit.

The mistake to avoid

The most common error on a small vertical tank like this is treating the 1.5 specific gravity rating as a license to set it on bare ground or an undersized stand. A full tank is several hundred pounds bearing on a small square base, and an unlevel or soft surface will rock or stress the tank wall over time. Set it on a flat, fully supported surface sized to the 23 x 23 inch footprint. For an above-ground slab install, our guide on concrete pad sizing for above-ground polyethylene tanks walks through the engineering. If you are catching roof runoff, the first-flush diverter sizing guide covers keeping the first dirty flush out of your stored water.
