Where a 23 inch tank earns its place

This is the size for a spot where a drum would be the alternative: a corner of a shop, the deck of a small dosing or wash-down skid, a well house, a utility room, a greenhouse bench or the back of a service truck. At 23 inches across it fits through any doorway upright and sits on half a pallet position. At 43 inches tall the lid is at waist height, so you can fill it from a hose or a bucket without a step. Full of water it puts about 540 lb on a 23 inch circle, so it wants a flat, continuous surface under the whole base: a slab, a solid deck or plywood over joists, never a grate or a pair of bearers with a gap between. What goes in it

Potable and non-potable water, liquid fertilizer, wash water and the common treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads at this size. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. A 1-1/4 inch ball valve or a hose adapter threads straight in. Dry-fit the valve so the handle swings clear of the tank before you seal the threads, and support the first length of pipe or hose on its own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid on top. It is wide enough for a hose, a float switch or a small pump inlet, and the vent lets air in as the tank drains so the walls are never pulled inward.
