Fittings, gaskets, and the mistake to avoid

PVC fittings with EPDM gaskets suit aluminum sulfate, calcium chloride, ethylene glycol, ferric chloride, ferric sulfate, ferrous sulfate, magnesium chloride, polyaluminum chloride, potassium carbonate, potassium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, and sodium thiosulfate. Oxidizers and strong acids step up to Viton gaskets: hydrochloric acid, hydrogen peroxide, phosphoric acid, and sodium hypochlorite run PVC fittings with Viton, while hydrofluoric acid (48%) and hydrofluosilicic acid (26%) take PP or PP/PVC fittings with Viton gaskets - do not spec EPDM on those two by inference. Sulfuric acid (98%) needs CPVC fittings with Viton.
