Wide and low, on purpose

Most 1,000 gallon tanks are tall. This one is 81 inches across and 69 inches high, under six feet, and that proportion is the reason to choose it. The manway can be reached from a step rather than a fixed ladder, the tank clears a roller door and the pipework above it, and the load spreads over a wide base. Snyder names the tank for sulfuric acid and builds it in the resin it specifies for that duty; we repeat the name and add nothing. Concentration, arrival temperature and whether you dilute on site decide the fit, so tell us those before you order. It goes in a water or wastewater plant, a pH control room, a boiler house or a process line where a bulk tanker fills it and a metering pump draws it down.

Floor, containment and usable volume

A full tank is close to eight tons at the 1.9 rating, spread over the 81 inch base. Secondary containment is only as good as its inspection, so put a look into the interstitial space on the operator's rounds and keep the outer tank dry. What to check before you buy

1. The liquid. Sulfuric acid, per Snyder's name. Confirm concentration and temperature with us and read the resin entry in our chemical compatibility guide.
2. The manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway: fill from a tanker hose, fit a level transmitter, inspect the inner tank by hand. Acid storage also needs a vent path sized for the fill rate; ask us about fume scrubbing if the tank is indoors.
3. Fittings. The outlet and any extra fittings are decided with us at order time. Snyder's drawing, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, shows the positions.
4. The temperature. Snyder's limit is 120 F. Dilution heats the acid; do it in a separate vessel and let it cool before transfer.
5. Headroom. At 69 inches the tank is low, but the manway lid, a transmitter and a fill connection add to that; measure the ceiling where it will stand.
