Collection duty and the gauge that runs it

Used oil collection is one of the few tank jobs where the contents arrive unpredictably and leave on somebody else's schedule. A shop drains crankcases, gearboxes and hydraulic systems all day; the oil has to go somewhere immediately, stay there without anybody thinking about it, and leave when the hauler comes. Between those events the only question that matters is how full the tank is, which is why the gauge is in the name. A collection tank without a level indication gets discovered when it overflows, and an overflow of waste oil is an afternoon of absorbent and a conversation nobody wants.
