A pallet-sized footprint at 32 inches tall

Start with the rack and the aisle, because that is what this tote is shaped for. At 42.5 inches square it sits inside the plan most plants have already standardised on for a tote position, and at 32.25 inches tall it is low enough that a person of ordinary height looks down into the lid rather than up at it. Low is the whole point. A short tote goes under a mezzanine, under a pipe run, under a roller door that will not open all the way, and onto the lower deck of a rack where the tall ones will not go. It also puts its outlet near the floor, which is good for gravity into a drum and bad for gravity into anything with height, and that is the trade you are making when you buy the 32 inch body instead of a taller one. Set it on a flat, continuous, level surface that carries the whole 42.5 inch square: a rack beam pair sized for the plan, a solid deck, or a slab. Not two pallets pushed together. Not a pallet with a broken board under one corner. Empty it is 105 pounds and two people shift it; full of water the sheet gives 1,001 pounds and its max contents line reads 1,401 pounds, and neither of those loads forgives a surface that only touches three corners. The name says stackable and the sheet publishes no stacking load at all, so this page gives you none: if totes are going to be stacked on your site, get the stacking condition in writing for the exact part number before anything goes on top of anything. The same sheet publishes no cage, no integral pallet, no fork pocket and no lift lug, so handle it from underneath on something that spreads the base rather than under a rim. Two of these hold 120 gallons and they are not the same purchase. This tote does it in a 42.5 inch square at 32.25 inches tall and 105 pounds. SII-6660015B97205 does it in a 46 by 45 inch plan at 34 inches tall and 187 pounds, which is three and a half inches more in one direction of plan, nearly two more in height, and eighty-two pounds more on the scale for the same liquid. Where the aisle, the rack opening or the handling equipment is the constraint, the lighter and smaller one is the buy, and that is this one. Where the duty is rougher and a heavier build is worth the space, the other one exists for exactly that and we would rather point you at it than pretend this tote is something it is not; the sheet does not explain what the extra eighty-two pounds is, so neither will we. Step up and SII-6630023B97204 holds 220 gallons in a 45 by 46 inch plan at 48 inches tall and 243.1 pounds: almost double the liquid on a plan barely larger than this one, bought entirely with height. That is the decision in one line. If your limit is the ceiling, the mezzanine or the shelf, buy this 120. If your limit is the floor and you have headroom, the 220 puts more product in the same square of concrete and cuts the number of deliveries.

Two inches out at the base, two inches in at the top

• The outlet: the sheet lists the outlet as 2, and on a 32.25 inch body it sits low, which is the reason to buy this shape for drum filling and the reason not to buy it for feeding anything with a lift. Put a full-flow shutoff hard against the fitting, then a flexible connector, then whatever the hose or the pipe is, so the tote never carries the weight of the line.
• The valve and what hangs off it: nothing downstream of the outlet is supported by the tote. A valve, a meter, a coupling and a hose reel all go on their own bracket off the rack or the wall. A tote is a container, not a pipe support, and the fitting boss is the part that pays for the difference.
• The inlet: listed as 2, which is the fill connection for a closed transfer rather than an open pour. Closed filling is the better habit on any product worth containing, and it keeps the lid shut while the tote is being filled.
• Access: a 6 inch threaded vented lid. That is a hose and a wand, not a hand and a forearm, so decide how this tote gets washed out before you decide what goes in it. Keep the vent path clear whenever a pump is drawing off the outlet.
• Gravity draw: with the outlet this close to the floor, a drum under it needs a stand or a rack under the tote to get any useful head. Plan the height once, in metal, rather than on blocks.
• Limits: this sheet publishes no maximum service temperature and no warranty term, and the only rating on it is the specific gravity of 1.35. Nothing further is claimed.

One hundred and twenty gallons is a deliberately small bulk tier, and the buyers are the ones for whom a 220 or anything larger is too much liquid to turn over: a laboratory or pilot plant, a small metal finishing line, a car wash with a slow-moving speciality product, a food plant with a short-dated additive, a municipal site dosing something it barely uses, a distributor breaking bulk into drums and jugs. In all of those the argument is turnover, not price per gallon, and buying too large a tote is how good product goes out as waste. The sheet gives the freight class as LTL under NMFC 156600-03 and lists the shipping size as 43 inches long by 43 inches wide by 33 inches high, so it travels as a low, square pallet and stacks well on a trailer. At 105 pounds empty it comes off with a pallet jack or two people; take it from under the base, never by the lid and never by the outlet boss. Set it in its final rack position before you plumb it, then fill it with clean water on the level, watch the outlet fitting and the lid seal through a full 1,001 pound load, and drain it before the working liquid goes in. Keep the shipment or the pallet it arrived on until the rack position is finished. The first thing to fail on a tote is the joint somebody hard-piped straight into the outlet, so break that joint flexible on day one and you will not meet it again.
