Bulk storage for a liquid heavier than water

The 1.9 rating is what separates this tank from the standard wall in the same shell: it is built for brines, concentrated acids and bases, dense fertilizer solutions and other liquids up to 1.9 times the weight of water, in a volume that takes a full tanker and keeps a reserve. The height to measure is not 198 inches but that plus the platform, fill line and vent above the manway. Outdoors, an empty tank this tall on a 142 inch base is a sail until it is filled, so the anchors go into the slab with the pour and the tie-downs are tightened before the crane leaves; black polyethylene grows in the sun, so check the straps after the first hot month. A rotationally moulded tank carries its load on the whole floor, so up to 198,075 lb bears on the full 142 inch circle; engineer the slab to our concrete pad sizing guide, poured level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to the tank where the liquid is regulated. A pad with one low corner turns the load into a point load. The black wall hides the level, so a sender read at grade is the gauge. What to check before you buy

1. The liquid. Check the liquid against polyethylene before you order. If it is heavier than 1.9 times water or runs warmer than 120 F in service, tell us; that is a different tank.
2. The outlet. This page lists the manway, not a bottom fitting. Tell us the liquid and the pipe you are tying into and we will confirm what this tank takes, in what size and material, before anything is drilled. A fitting at the base carries the full head of a dense liquid all day, so the connector to hard pipe is flexible and the first valve sits on its own support off the pad.
3. The manway. 18 inch threaded and vented, 198 inches off the pad. That is a fixed ladder and a platform with a rail. Fill down a dip tube to the floor, and run the vent to where any fumes should go.

Shipping and receiving

The tank ships at freight class 300, 142 by 142 by 198 inches, 4,200 lb, from Snyder's plant at Lincoln, Nebraska. At 142 inches across it is a permitted oversize load, and the route matters as much as the rate: walk the gate, the overhead lines and the turn onto the pad before delivery day. A crane stands 4,200 lb up with straps under the body, never a hook in the manway, and lands it on the anchors set with the pad. At the tailgate, check the part number against 5350000N51 on the bill of lading and walk round the base for transit damage. Fill it with water first, hold it a day, and read the base, the pad edge and the base fitting before the working liquid goes in.
