Where a 47 inch base earns its corner

This is the smallest floor plan in the mid part of the family, and the floor plan is the reason to buy it. Forty-seven inches square is under four feet each way, which fits in the corner of a plant room, in the gap at the end of a skid, or against a wall in a bay that is already full, and it does that while holding 275 gallons behind a second wall. Put another way: this is the largest contained tank most crowded rooms can actually accommodate without something else moving out. The surface underneath still has to be right. Flat, continuous and level across the whole footprint, no rails, no timber left under it and no shim at a corner, because above that base sits 2,294 pounds of water at 8.34 pounds per gallon and 4,358 pounds at the published 1.9 rating. That is a manageable load for a ground floor slab and an unreasonable one for a raised platform or a mezzanine bay that was never rated for it, so if it is going anywhere other than the ground, get the support confirmed rather than assumed. The route in is where this size quietly wins. It will not pass a standard 36 inch doorway, so a shutter or a bay door is still the way in, but at 47 inches wide and 63 inches tall it corners in an aisle that the wider and taller shells cannot negotiate, and it clears overhead pipework and lintels that stop a seven foot vessel. Walk the route and measure the narrowest and lowest point, not the entrance. Height works in your favour once it is in place. Four listings share this exact 47 by 47 by 63 inch shell at 200 pounds, and what separates them is the name and the color the maker gives each one. The sheet explains none of it and neither will this page: guessing a specification out of a name is how a plant ends up with a vessel that was never meant for its duty. Describe the product and the strength and we will tell you which of the four to order. The two other rows are the most instructive pair in the whole family, because they show that gallons and footprint are not the same conversation. The 250 gallon 5990502N42 holds slightly less than this tank but does it on a 34 inch square plan at 83 inches tall and 150 pounds: barely any floor, close to seven feet of height, and a lid well above head height. Three tanks, three answers, one question: what does your room have spare? If it is height, the tall narrow row wins. If it is floor, the wide row wins and you get more volume with it. If it is neither, this tank is the compromise that needs neither a platform nor a cleared bay, and that is the case it makes on its own terms.

An 18 inch opening on a small tank

• The outlet: the outlet field reads 1 Manway / Lid, an opening and not a pipe size, and the sheet publishes no inlet, thread, flange or valve, so none is claimed. Tell us the duty and the line size before the pump is specified and we will confirm what this part number carries.
• The opening: an 18 inch threaded vented manway. On a tank of this capacity that is a generous opening, and it is the single practical advantage this size holds over the tall, narrow vessels of similar volume that carry a small lid instead: you can see in, reach in with a lance, and check the inside surface properly.
• Reaching it: the top is at 63 inches, so the manway sits at chest height and everything done there is done from the floor. Bring the fill connection to working level rather than making a driver climb, and the delivery becomes a two minute job.
• Pump arrangement: with the published route in and out at the top, the usual arrangement here is a suction line and strainer dropped through the manway to a metering pump nearby. Keep the suction short, set the strainer clear of the bottom so the settled last inch is not the first thing it lifts, and support the hose off its own bracket rather than off the manway rim.
• The vent: the manway is listed as vented, and that path is the wall's protection on a fast fill and a hard pump down. Keep it clear, inspect it whenever the manway is opened, and never restrict it to hold an odour.
• The space between the walls: no monitoring port, gauge or alarm is published, and no stand, legs or level device either. The arrangement for watching that space is specified separately, and it is worth writing down.

Name the product at order time. On a vessel this size the seal and the suction fitting are very nearly the whole wetted system, and choosing them generically is the one mistake that matters.

Point of use storage that replaces a tote

This is the size that usually replaces a tote or a pair of drums at a feed point: a metering station on a treatment skid, a chemical feed room at a small water or wastewater works, a cooling tower or boiler house dosing point, a pool and aquatics plant room, a laundry or vehicle wash, a plating or finishing bench, and food, beverage and dairy lines that dose steadily. The comparison with the tote is the honest one. A tote has to be lifted, swapped and stored somewhere, it sits in whatever tray is available, and nobody can tell you when the tray was last checked.
