Everything about placing this tank is decided by two numbers: 22 inches of base and 36 inches of height. That is a footprint smaller than most pallets and a top that sits at waist height, so it goes on a bench, in a cabinet, on the deck of a skid, in the bed of a truck, inside a curbed spill tray, or in the corner of a pump house where a larger tank could not be carried, let alone plumbed. What the small footprint does not do is excuse the surface under it. Full at the rating there are 555 pounds standing on a 22 inch circle, and a rotationally molded floor bears on everything it touches and nothing else, so the bench, the stand or the slab has to be flat, level and continuous, with no bolt head, weld bead or chipped corner carrying the edge of the tank. The framework that sizes a pad for a bulk vessel is the same one that governs a small one, and it is set out in the concrete pad sizing guide; at 35 gallons the usual failure is not a cracked slab but a tank set on something that was never meant to hold weight. Then restrain it. At 18 pounds empty this is a tank a person picks up, which means it is also a tank a knee, a hose pull or a closing door can move, and once it is full the weight arrives faster than the restraint does, so strap it to the bench, the rack or the wall before the first fill and again whenever it is moved. In a vehicle, restrain it for the hardest stop the truck will ever make. Four walls in the 22 by 36 inch shell

Four tanks share this 22 by 36 inch shell at the same 18 pounds, so the reason to take this one is the wall, not the size: cross-linked polyethylene in natural white, which means the level reads through the shell without a gauge and the chemistry gets the cross-linked grade. The N48 is the same cross-linked wall in black for a liquid that light degrades, and the N51 and the SII prefixed N45 are the high density grades in the shell, each rated as its own sheet says. Off the shell the choice is shape rather than grade. The 1541000N51 puts 30 gallons into a 23 inch cube, which is the tank for a space with no height at all, and the 1540700N51 holds 50 gallons on a 23 inch base at 38 inches, which is the next step up in volume for two more inches of height and eight more pounds of tank. This one is the readable, cross-linked, waist high 35.

A 5 inch lid, and nothing published below it

• Outlet: the sheet lists the outlet as 1 Manway / Lid. No bottom fitting diameter, material, thread or gasket is published on it, so tell us the liquid and the pipe at order and the draw-off is specified then. No size appears on this page that the sheet does not carry.
• Access: 5 inch lid at the top, 36 inches up, opened standing at the tank; fill slowly on anything that foams, and vent outdoors on anything that fumes.
• Service limit: 140 F / 60 C. The structural field is blank on this sheet, so no lifting or tiedown lug is claimed.

A 5 inch lid is an opening for a hand, a fill hose and a light, and not much else, so the plumbing decisions get made before the tank arrives rather than through the top afterwards. Specify the draw-off on the order against the liquid and the pipe you are tying into. Then respect the head, because there is barely any: 36 inches of tank standing on a bench gives a column of liquid a foot or two above a pump inlet, which is why a self priming pump, a pump mounted below the base, or a plain gravity drop into a smaller vessel are the arrangements that work here, and a pump set above the tank is the arrangement that will cavitate and get blamed on the tank. Put a stop or a float on the pump so it never runs dry. Keep the connection to hard pipe flexible; at 18 pounds the pipe will pick the tank up, tip it, or crack the fitting at the first cold morning if the run is rigid, and a small tank plumbed rigidly is the most common way one of these gets ruined. Support the first valve on its own bracket. Keep the lid closed between fills so nothing gets in that you did not put there, write the liquid's name on the wall, and read the level through the translucent shell rather than opening it, which is what the white wall is for.

The smallest tank a feed skid can stand on

At 35 gallons you are buying a working vessel, not storage: the chemical feed tank on a well house or lift station skid, a bench tank in a laboratory or a plating line, a warm sanitizing solution at a food or beverage plant, a concentrate tank that gets diluted downstream, a treatment tank on a service truck or a small trailer, the tank that finally replaces the open bucket somebody has been decanting into. At 18 pounds it is a one person carry off the back of the truck, so the only receiving question worth asking is whether anyone will be there to sign for it. Fill it with water on the surface it will live on, leave it a shift, then read the base and the seam before it is drained and dried.
