The Snyder Industries 90 Gallon ASTM Black Heavy Duty Vertical Storage Tank is a compact vertical storage tank molded from high density linear polyethylene, standing 41 inches tall on a square 34 x 34 inch footprint. Its 1.9 specific gravity rating is what separates a heavy-duty tank from an economy one: at that rating the tank is built to carry contents up to 1,426 pounds, well beyond the 751 pounds of a full load of water. For a black vertical tank in this size class, that headroom is the deciding spec for anyone storing anything denser than water.

Will it work for your job?

At 90 gallons the tank measures 41 inches tall on a 34 x 34 inch footprint, so check that pairing together against door, ceiling, and truck-bed clearance before you order — the narrow square base drops into tight utility rooms, equipment skids, and truck beds where a wider tank won't fit. Full water weight is 751 pounds, so plan your pad and any elevated stand around that figure, and around the 1,426-pound maximum if you'll run a heavier fluid. The black resin blocks light, which suppresses algae growth in stored water, making this a practical choice for non-potable process water, rainwater holding, and general industrial storage. If you're still deciding on capacity, run the numbers through our Tank Sizing Calculator or read the Tank Sizing Guide before you commit.

Fittings and access

The technical drawing on this page shows the fitting layout: a flange, a 14-inch polyethylene threaded and vented fitting, and a manway with 11-inch access. The vented threaded fitting is your fill and venting point, the flange is the plumbed connection for draw-off, and the manway opens the tank for hand entry, cleaning, and inspection. Two things to confirm from the drawing before you buy: the fitting locations and thread sizes for your plumbing, and the 11-inch access opening if you plan to add a lid gasket, riser, or any internal hardware — those accessories have to match that 11-inch opening. For pad guidance under an above-ground tank, our write-up on concrete pad sizing for above-ground polyethylene tanks walks through the ACI framework.

One thing to get right

Don't over-spec the fluid without checking the rating. This tank is rated to 1.9 specific gravity, which is generous, but that's a ceiling, not an invitation to ignore it. Match your stored fluid's density to the rating and size for the weight, not just the volume — the guide on freeboard sizing per ASTM D1998 explains how density and thermal expansion cut into the volume you can actually use.
