Why the low one

Buy this tank when height is the constraint. At 43 inches it goes under a workbench, a mezzanine, a low basement ceiling or the canopy of a trailer, and it fits in the back of a pickup or a van without the top catching the frame. The price of that is five more inches of floor than the tall 100 gallon tank takes, and it still passes through a standard doorway upright. A squat tank is also the steadier one: the weight sits low, so it rides on a trailer deck or a skid better than a tall tank does and shrugs off the knock from a pallet truck that would rock a slim shell. Full of water it puts about 830 lb on a 28 inch circle, and a rotationally moulded base bears on everything it touches and nothing else, so it wants a flat, continuous surface under the whole base.

What goes in it

Water, liquid fertilizer, wash water and the treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water belong in a heavy duty tank rated 1.9; the 75 gallon heavy duty vertical tank is the nearest. Keep the contents under 120 F. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. Thread a 1-1/4 inch valve straight in. Dry-fit it so the handle clears the wall, seal the threads, and support the first length of pipe on its own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid. Wide enough for a hose, a float switch or a small pump inlet; the vent lets air in as liquid goes out so the walls are never pulled inward.
