Where a 31 inch tall tank goes

This is the tank for the space under a workbench, inside a pickup bed with the tonneau closed, under a low basement ceiling, beneath a mezzanine or on a trailer that has to clear a barn door. At 31 inches the lid is at knee height, which makes filling from a bucket awkward and filling from a hose or a pump line easy, so plan a fill line rather than a bucket. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. Thread a 1-1/4 inch valve straight in. On a tank this low the valve sits close to the floor, so dry-fit it with the handle pointing where a hand can reach, seal the threads, and support the pipe on its own.
2. Lid. A 5 inch threaded vented lid. Enough for a fill hose or a float; the vent lets air in as the tank drains. A 5 inch opening is not a manway, so plan to clean the tank by flushing through the outlet.
