300 Gallon Green Doorway Water Tank

Outside, against a wall, out of sight

Pick the green tank when the tank will stand where it can be seen and where the sun reaches it: beside a house under a downspout, along a garden fence, behind a barn, at a cabin. At 25 inches wide it tucks against a wall under an eave, and at 65 inches tall it collects a useful amount of roof water on a small footprint. Pick the white version instead when the tank lives indoors and you want to read the level through the wall. Nothing else changes with the colour: same body, same openings, same rating. Full of water it is 2502 lb standing on 59 by 25 inches, so outdoors it needs a level pad, concrete or compacted gravel, in full contact with the whole base, poured or laid wider than the tank, with the overflow led away from the pad edge so it does not wash underneath. What goes in it

Rainwater and stored water are the normal loads. The 1.5 specific gravity rating, a maximum of 12.52 lb per gallon, means it will also hold most liquid fertilizers and the common solutions polyethylene handles. Keep the contents under 120 F. Rainwater off a roof carries leaves and grit, so put a screen or a first-flush diverter ahead of the inlet and clean the tank through the manway once a season. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. A hose bib, a valve or a pump suction threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of hose so the fitting carries water, not hardware.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: wide enough to take a downspout inlet, to drop a float in, and to get an arm and a brush inside to clean. The vent lets air in as the tank drains, so never seal it.
