The Chem-Tainer 2500 Gallon HD Vertical Storage Tank is a heavy-duty bulk water and liquid storage tank built for high-density service. Molded in Natural White polyethylene, it stands 89" tall with a 95" diameter (95" x 95" footprint) and carries a 1.9 specific gravity rating - meaning the wall is engineered to hold contents up to 1.9 times the weight of water. For straightforward water storage that rating is generous headroom; for denser liquids it is the spec that lets this vertical storage tank do work a standard 1.0 or 1.5 SG vertical tank cannot.

Will it work for your application?

At 2500 gallons of nominal capacity, a full tank of water weighs about 20,850 lb, and the tank is rated to carry contents up to 39,615 lb at its full 1.9 SG rating - nearly double the weight a water-only (1.0 SG) tank of this size is built around. Use both numbers when you plan the pad and the site: the water-full weight tells you what an everyday fill looks like, and the max-rated contents weight tells you the ceiling if you are storing something heavier than water. The footprint is 95.0 x 95.0 inches, so confirm your pad spans the full base with room for the support it needs. If you are deciding between this and a smaller or larger 2500 gallon vertical tank, run the numbers through our Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide before you commit.

Specs, fittings, and fluid match

Dimensions are 89" high by a 95" diameter base, in polyethylene, rated to 1.9 specific gravity. Fitting and outlet placement is configured to order - call 866-418-1777 to confirm the layout before you set the tank, because moving plumbing after a 2500-gallon vertical is in place is not a small job. Because this tank is rated to 1.9 SG for denser-than-water service, also confirm fitting and gasket materials are matched to your specific stored liquid at order time. Getting the layout and the materials right up front is far cheaper than reworking them after delivery.

The mistake to avoid

The most common error on a 1.9 SG tank is treating the rating as a freebie and assuming the pad and anchoring are sized for water alone. They are not. If you store a denser liquid, design the foundation and any tie-downs to the max-rated contents weight, not the water-full number - that is the difference between 20,850 lb and 39,615 lb sitting on your slab. Get the pad right for the heaviest thing you will actually store. For the engineering behind that, our guide on concrete pad sizing for above-ground polyethylene tanks walks through the ACI 360R-10 framework, and the Snyder vs Norwesco vs Chem-Tainer vertical comparison covers how the brands stack up at the next size down.

Freight and ordering

This storage tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP from the nearest stocking plant. It is stocked on both coasts - Chowchilla, CA and Griffin, GA - so most ZIPs quote from a closer origin than a single-plant competitor. Because a 2500-gallon vertical is a large freight item, run your ZIP through the Freight Cost Estimator for a real number, or call 866-418-1777 and we will quote it and walk you through delivery and offload. If this tank feeds a rural fire-protection setup, our guide on fire-water reservoir tank design for rural and remote sites covers NFPA 22 sizing, and for reuse and aggregation projects see our industrial water reuse tank topology guide.
