Ten and a half feet tall: plan the pad and the restraint first

Four thousand gallons is more than a tanker delivery, which is why this size turns up as a fire reserve on a rural property, a reuse or rainwater buffer on an industrial site, a bulk water supply at a yard, or a fertilizer store at a co-op. Full, the tank puts the better part of twenty-five tons on an eight and a half foot circle, so the pad is the engineering: a poured slab checked level with an instrument, a steel deck plate, or a compacted and screeded bed with a retained edge, sized with the concrete pad sizing guide. At 125 inches the shell needs a ladder for the manway and a strap to a wall, a frame or ground anchors before the first fill; an empty 756 lb tank this tall is a sail. Openings, fittings and the pad

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. A 2 inch outlet drains a tank this size slowly; if you need a fast draw for fire service or a pump suction, tell us and we will look at the 3 inch outlet shells in this range with you. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top for the fill hose, a float and cleaning. Leave the vent open.
3. The pad. Continuous, level contact across the whole 102 inch circle. No rails, no pallet, no shim. A slight fall away keeps the tank out of its own overflow.
4. The liquid. Up to 1.5 specific gravity and 120 F. Polyethylene suits water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals; check anything else with us before you order.

The tank is an oversize LTL load, 125 by 102 by 102 inches lying down on the trailer and 760 lb as shipped, from Norwesco's Owego, New York plant. The listed price is before freight; the freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP, or request a written quote for a job that needs paperwork. A shell this size needs an approach, a gate and a set-down spot the truck can use, and standing it up takes equipment or several people; plan that before delivery day. At the tailgate, check the part number 40312 on the bill of lading, look over the shell for transit damage before the driver leaves, stand it with the outlet toward the pipe run, and fill it with water the first time.
