A 500 gallon black elliptical tank that rides low in a cradle or on a truck
The Norwesco 500 gallon black elliptical tank, part number 40328B, is a polyethylene transport and storage tank 82 inches long, 57 inches wide and 44 inches tall, weighing 154 lb empty. The elliptical cross-section keeps the liquid low and wide, so a loaded pickup, trailer or sprayer frame corners better than it would with a round tank of the same volume. The curved bottom has no legs; it sits in a cradle or on a frame shaped to it. It comes with a 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the inlet and another at the outlet, and a 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. Norwesco rates it for liquids up to 1.5 specific gravity and to 120 F, states the resin is FDA compliant, lists it as NSF 61, and backs it with a 3 year warranty. Five hundred gallons of water weighs about 4170 lb.

Where 82 by 57 by 44 inches goes that a round tank will not
At 44 inches tall this tank clears the cab of most pickups and the sides of most trailers, and at 57 inches wide it fits between the wheel wells of many full size beds with the cradle under it. That makes it a pickup-mounted sprayer supply, a water tank on a flatbed, or the nurse tank on a small applicator trailer. Full, it is more than two tons of water, so the vehicle's payload and the cradle's tie-downs decide the job, not the tank; the cradle carries the curve so the shell is not resting on two lines of deck. What goes in it
Water, liquid fertilizer, herbicide mixes and the farm and treatment chemicals polyethylene handles, up to 1.5 times the weight of water and 120 F. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, installed. Your valve, pump inlet or hose adapter threads straight in. Support the valve and the first length of hose so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware bouncing on a road.
- Inlet. A second 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting for a return line or a fill connection. Cap it if you do not use it.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump and to get a hand and a brush inside, vented so the tank breathes as the pump draws.
- Drawing. Norwesco's drawing for this tank, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, shows the fitting positions and the shell profile a cradle has to match.
- The cradle. Not included. Tell us the deck or frame it is going on and we will confirm the right cradle or bands before the order ships.
