The shortest wall in the family still needs a real pad

Four feet five inches is low enough to change how a site plans around a tank. It slides under a 60 inch shelf, under a mezzanine, under most pipe racks, into a container or onto a trailer without a height conversation, and the rim is low enough to work at from the floor or a single step. None of that removes the groundwork, and this is the tank people most often set down wrong because it looks small. One opening listed, everything under it specified

• Outlet: the sheet gives "1 Manway / Lid" as the outlet field and gives no bottom fitting size anywhere. We print the field as it stands and never read it as a pipe size. Name the liquid, its working temperature and the draw-off you need when you order, and we will confirm what this molding accepts, in what material, before anything is cut.
• Listed opening: an 18 inch threaded, vented manway at 53 inches. An eighteen inch opening on the smallest shell in the range means the tank is easy to fill, easy to clean with a wand and easy to see into; on a black wall, being able to see the whole floor from the rim is worth more than it sounds.
• Reaching it: the floor, or one step. This is the tank that needs no fixed access, no platform and no tie-off, which is exactly why it ends up in trailers, skids and small rooms.
• Fill and vent: a dip tube to the floor so the stream does not splash the headspace, the vent piped outdoors on anything that fumes, and the vent sized to the delivery pump rather than the nearest port. Service limit: 140 F / 60 C. Warranty: 3 year.

Small tanks get treated casually and that is how they fail. The cover stays threaded shut between deliveries, and each opening is a real inspection: a light on the band of wall above the liquid line, a look at the floor for sediment, a look at the threads and the gasket seat, and the date on the log. On a cross-linked wall bought for warm duty that headspace band is the part that ages first, so the schedule matters more here than the size suggests. Anything plumbed at the base sits on its own support off the pad with a flexible connector to hard pipe, because a warm line moves and a rigid one moves the tank wall with it. Put the one liquid's name on the shell where a driver reads it, and where the site freezes, trace or wrap the base piping and the first valve; the body ices from the top down without harm.

Day tanks, batch makeup and the drum farm it replaces

This is the tank that clears a corner of drums: a day tank feeding a metering pump, a dilution or makeup vessel on a batch line, a warm cleaning solution in a wash-down room, a parts washer or plating line supply, a nursery or greenhouse feed tank, a mobile skid or service trailer, and a well house or lift station where the whole room is the size of the pad. One labelled vessel with one connection beats a row of part-used drums for housekeeping, for spill risk and for knowing what is actually on site. Sixty-five pounds of tank, class 300, out of Merced

The sheet gives class 300 and 65 pounds shipping weight from Merced, California. It is the lightest tank in this batch and it still prices as a cube on the deck, so the lane is worth checking rather than assuming, particularly from a California origin to an eastern dock: put the ZIP into the freight cost estimator and the listed price is before freight. Sixty-five pounds is a two-person lift or a pallet jack, straps under the body and never a sling through the manway, and the tank goes onto the finished pad rather than the timbers or the pallet it is tempting to leave it on. Fill it with cold water to the manway, hold it, walk the base and the pad edge twice, then drain and dry it before the working liquid arrives. Last job before the crew leaves: photograph the empty tank on its pad from two sides, because on the smallest tank on site nobody remembers a year later how it was set, and that picture is the only evidence of it.
