Daylight, a level slab and a tall narrow tank

Two things decide where this one goes, and the first is light. The shell is black, which keeps daylight out of the contents, and that is the reason a site picks this part number over the natural white listing standing next to it on the same 34 by 34 by 83 inch shell at the same 150 pounds. If the vessel is going under a skylight, beside a roller shutter that spends the day open, in a lit bay or anywhere outdoors under a canopy, the black wall is doing work that a white one is not. What it costs you is the level reading: on a white tank an operator sees the liquid through the shell from across the room, and on this one the only published opening is a lid at 83 inches, so plan how the level gets read before the tank is set rather than afterwards. The second is the slab. The same 83 inch shell under four names

Four part numbers, one shell, four names. We print the name each sheet gives and interpret none of them; where a drawing, a spares list or an existing installation already names one of these part numbers, order that one and we will confirm the published figures against it before anything ships. What you can act on from this table is proportion and colour. Two of the four are black and two are not, and that is a decision about daylight rather than about chemistry. The 150 gallon row shares this exact 34 inch plan at 62 inches and 110 pounds, so stepping down costs you nothing on the floor and brings the lid twenty-one inches closer to a standing operator, which on a vessel filled by hand is a genuine daily difference. The 275 gallon row goes the other way entirely: more volume than this tank on a 47 inch plan at just 63 inches and 200 pounds, trading floor space for a top somebody can see into from one step. Three vessels, three shapes, and the room you are putting it in decides which. Measure the ceiling, measure the floor you can give up, and then work out which of the two is the constraint you cannot argue with. That answer is usually obvious once it is written down, and it is almost never the gallon figure that settles it.

What the 14 inch lid does and does not carry

• The outlet field: "1 Manway / Lid" and nothing else, with the inlet field blank. That names an opening, not a pipe size. No outlet dimension, thread, bulkhead, flange or valve is published on this sheet and none is claimed here. Give us the duty and the line size and we will confirm what this part number carries.
• The opening: a 14 inch threaded vented lid, the only one on the sheet, doing duty as the fill point, the inspection point and the cleaning access. Fourteen inches accepts a delivery coupling, a drop pipe and a lance; everything you want on top shares it.
• Reaching it: the lid is at 83 inches. On a black shell you cannot read the level from the floor either, so the access arrangement and the level indication should be designed together rather than separately.
• The vent: the lid is listed as vented. That path is the wall's protection on a fast fill and a hard pump-down, and on a tall, slim tank the level moves quickly for a given flow. Keep it clear and look at it every time the lid comes off.
• The space between the walls: no monitoring port, gauge or alarm is published, so that arrangement is specified separately. A scheduled look with the date written down is the minimum worth having.
• Structure: the sheet publishes no lifting lugs, no ladder lugs and no flange lines.
• Limits: 120 F / 48 C, a specific gravity rating of 1.9, and a 3 Year Warranty, as this sheet gives them.

Outdoor dosing points and yards with no roof

A black contained tank in this shape goes where a white one would be working against the light: a dosing point under an open canopy, a wash bay or vehicle wash with the shutter up all day, an agricultural or horticultural chemical store, a plant room with a skylight over it, a quarry or wash plant reagent station, a metal finishing line beside a window, and any yard-side feed point where the vessel stands outdoors but a spill still has to be contained. Two hundred and fifty gallons on a three foot square is the practical part: it takes a hose delivery, it does not need a bund constructed round it, and it occupies a corner rather than a bay. Where it is outside, walk round it after weather and after any traffic near it, and keep the schedule for looking into the space between the walls the same in winter as in summer. The one thing to arrange deliberately is level indication, because a black wall gives you none.

One pallet position and 150 pounds puts this within a tail lift delivery and a pallet truck on most sites, so the height rather than the weight is what you plan around: measure the lintels, the roller shutter and any overhead pipework on the route, and remember that a tank standing nearly seven feet on the ground is taller again on a pallet. Take it under the base, never by the lid, and keep it upright through the building where the route allows. Set it on the finished, level surface in its final position, check it is plumb from two directions and secure it against being knocked before anything is connected. Fill it with clean water, hold the 2,085 pound load, and read the lid seal and the base all the way round. Drain it, let it dry, open the space between the walls and record the date on the shell. On a black tank, do one extra thing while the water is still in it: mark the outside of the shell at your working full level and at your stop level in paint, because from that day on nobody is going to see it through the wall.
