Where this tank earns its keep

The black shell decides the duty list: sodium hypochlorite at a small water or wastewater plant, where light is what degrades the strength; a peroxide or a photosensitive process chemical in a plant room; a fertilizer or micronutrient solution that has to stay dark; a fuel additive or oil product on a shop pad. Full, the whole load bears on a 36 inch circle, and six feet of liquid over that circle concentrates the load more than most shop floors were poured for. Level and in full contact under the whole base; a new pad follows the concrete pad sizing guide, with containment sized to the tank wherever the liquid is regulated. Empty at 80 lb and six feet tall it is top-heavy, so brace it to structure on day one. Openings and what to confirm before you buy

1. Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway on top, 72 inches up, on a shell you cannot see into from outside. Nobody reaches that flat-footed: a short platform bearing on the floor and not on the tank, or a permanent fill line landed at the lid so a driver never lifts a hose overhead.
2. Outlet. The manway is the only opening listed for this tank. Tell us the liquid and the draw-off you need when you order and we will confirm what can be fitted before anything is cut.
3. Vent and fill. A dip tube to the floor matters most on this shape, because a stream falling six feet inside a narrow shell foams and wets the whole headspace; pipe the vent outdoors on anything that fumes and size it to the delivery pump.

Shipping and receiving

The tank ships LTL at freight class 300 from Snyder's plant in Philippi, WV, 36 by 36 by 72 inches and 80 lb on the pallet. Eighty pounds standing six feet is an awkward parcel rather than a heavy one, and the carrier charges for the space it stands in, so put your ZIP into the freight cost estimator before you order. Unload it with two people or a hand truck with the tank strapped to the frame, hands and straps under the base and never through the manway, and walk it to its final position empty. Then water to the manway, held for the time the hydrostatic test methodology article gives, with a walk around the base and a level laid across the top rim in both directions, then drained and dried.
