The standard wall on this shell
Snyder makes this shell in a heavier wall rated to 1.9 as well. For a dense chemical that is the right buy. For water and liquids no heavier than 1.5 times water, this 750 lb tank does the job, and the difference goes into the pad and the fittings. The white wall is the second reason to pick it: an operator reads the level by eye and sees the wet line move after a fill without opening the lid. If the tank will stand in full sun, or hold a liquid that breaks down in light, the black version of this same wall is the better choice. Full of water it weighs 4,000 x 8.34 = 33,360 lb plus the tank, on a 102 inch circle. The slab is designed per our concrete pad sizing guide, and the empty tank is restrained before the first fill, because ten feet of polyethylene on an eight and a half foot base catches wind. What goes in it
Water, liquid fertilizer and the common treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads, up to 1.5 times the weight of water and 120 F. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting low in the wall. Ten feet of liquid above it keeps a pump at pad level flooded. A low level float stops the pump before it draws air. Support the valve and the first pipe run off the pad; trace or insulate them where winters freeze.
- Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway on top, 126 inches up: a platform with a rail for whoever opens it, a dip tube for a truck fill, and a vent that passes air as fast as the fastest pump the tank will see moves liquid.
- Freeboard. Fill to the shoulder, not the manway. Liquid grows as it warms.
